How paella catering works in Oxfordshire

A couple of different pans covers everyone: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Each is cooked separately. Typical bookings include fairs, fêtes and festivals and engagement and anniversary parties, serving paella Valenciana, black rice and mixed paella.

Expect a friendly, organised team. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up our cooking area, and get on with cooking and serving.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Cost

Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so your choice of paellas affects the total. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.

Why book with us

Live paella across Oxfordshire: what to know

Oxfordshire covers everything from Oxford, Banbury and Didcot to 358 small villages and hamlets, and live paella suits every kind of setting. In towns, plan parking and access; in villages, tell us about lanes and ground. The Chilterns National Landscape and the North Wessex Downs National Landscape are within easy reach of places across Oxfordshire, where some venues have extra rules about vehicles and cooking.

Oxford: Nearby historic houses include Holywell Manor, Oxford (0.8 miles north-west) and Garsington Manor (4.1 miles south-east). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. For guests coming by train, the nearest station is Oxford station, about 1.6 miles west. Planning an evening event in Oxford? Sunset is around 9:00pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

About the dishes

Seafood paella

Seafood paella starts with a good fish and shellfish stock. The shellfish is added late so it stays tender.

Vegetable and vegan paella

A vegetable paella isn’t an afterthought: peppers, artichokes and beans with saffron.

How we price paella catering

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • How long we are needed on site
  • Whether you need crockery
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Starters, canapés and desserts

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

What to tell us

To speed things up, tell us:

  • A picture of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • The courses you’d like
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • Your date and when you want to eat

Every quote is put together for your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we will check availability at the same time.

Planners, venues and businesses

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

Before you choose a spot

We’ll agree the cooking spot with you before the day. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

Should I cook it myself?

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and don’t stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.
