About the dishes

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, and is usually served with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

Vegetable and vegan paella

A vegetable paella is not an afterthought: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron, cooked in its own pan.

About our paella catering in Moulsford

Watching it cook is part of the experience. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the aroma does the rest. Popular choices include mixed paella, seafood paella and vegetable paella, and typical bookings are for garden get-togethers and festivals, fairs and school events.

For a rural spot like Moulsford, the countryside is part of the appeal: a giant pan in a garden or field fits perfectly. Let us know about access and ground conditions. We plan the timings around your day, whether that is speeches, a lunch break or a festival schedule.

Catering for every guest

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Tell us how many children are coming

Let the paella rest for a few minutes before serving, which is when we generally call guests over.

Tapas or canapés make a good start as the rice cooks.

Planning the cooking area

We will be honest if a space will not work, and help find another spot. What matters most:

  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and we will say what we think.

What’s the nearest station to Moulsford for guests?

Cholsey station, about 1.3 miles north of the centre.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

How does live paella catering work?

We cook from scratch at your venue in big pans, in front of your guests, and serve straight from the pan.

Can you bring crockery?

If you need them, yes. Proper crockery or quality disposables can be added to your booking.

What about pudding?

We do. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana, or you can serve your own cake.

Is halal food available?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in its own pan.

Step by step

Service is quick: the paella goes straight from the pan to the plate, so large groups are fed quickly. Afterwards we clear our cooking area away. Around midsummer it stays light in Moulsford until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. Your guests watch the paella cook, with any tapas served first.
  5. We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.
