What happens on the day

We get there well before serving, unload, set up the burners and prepare the stock. Guests normally gather round to watch while it cooks. Planning an evening event in Little Heath? Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The paella cooks as guests gather round.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Paella catering in Little Heath, made fresh on the day

The cooking is half the fun. Guests gather round as the sofrito sizzles and the saffron colours the rice, and the smell does the rest. Typical bookings include garden get-togethers and wedding breakfasts and evening food, serving chicken and chorizo paella, vegan paella and mixed paella.

In and around Little Heath, gardens and local halls are common choices. If access is tight, we will plan around it. Each paella is cooked from scratch on the day, not reheated.

Planning for every diet

We take diets and allergies seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Confirm allergies by email

A short rest after cooking helps, and that’s when we invite guests up.

We can add sangria and bar staff for your own drinks.

Occasions we cook for in Little Heath

It needs no kitchen, so it works in gardens, fields and marquees where other catering struggles.

Big or small, live paella works well. Common bookings include:

  • Community events and fairs
  • Anniversary celebrations
  • Garden parties and summer barbecues
  • Office lunches and staff parties

Nearby historic houses include Mapledurham House (2 miles north-east) and Basildon Park (4 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early.

Choosing a paella caterer

Should I cook it myself?

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: peppers, artichokes and beans with saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Seafood paella

A rich seafood stock with prawns, mussels and squid, finished with lemon wedges. It is the pan people photograph.

Little Heath: your questions answered

Can you cook in Calcot Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, generally the council. Check with them, and we will provide our paperwork.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Catherine of Siena?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking generally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

Is halal food available?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in a separate pan.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Usually we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, because we use gas burners. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.

What space do you need to cook?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

Can you serve drinks?

Sangria, yes. For other drinks, we can provide bar staff to serve what you buy.

Is paella a full meal?

It is a full meal on its own. Tapas and desserts can be added if you like.

Can you bring crockery?

If you need them, yes. Proper crockery or quality disposables can be added to your booking.

Why choose live paella in Little Heath?

If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella brings colour, aroma and a touch of Spain. The cost per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

  • How long we are needed on site
  • Guest numbers
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
