Paella catering for Calcot events

About our paella catering in Calcot

Two or three pans side by side cover every guest: meat, seafood and vegetarian or vegan paellas. Each is cooked separately. Popular choices include vegan paella, chicken and chorizo paella and black rice, and we are regularly asked to cater garden parties and summer barbecues and christenings and family gatherings.

A place like Calcot frequently has a hall, a club or a pub garden nearby; live paella can work at any of them, given permission and outdoor space. We cook every pan in full view of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Calcot questions

Which station should guests use for Calcot?

The closest is Theale station, roughly 1.2 miles away.

Could we have live paella in Calcot Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council. Ask them first, and we’ll send any information they need.

Is halal food available?

Yes. Halal paella is cooked with halal chicken and no pork or alcohol, in its own pan.

Should we have more than one paella?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We will help you decide the split.

Who clears up?

We take our equipment and leave the cooking area tidy. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.

Do you cater for young children?

Children are welcome. Let us know numbers and ages, and we will plan for them.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, such as a gazebo, marquee or open-sided barn with good ventilation. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Can we choose the seafood?

We will suggest seafood to suit your menu and budget. Premium options are available.

Step by step

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, and we agree where that is before the day. Evenings in Calcot stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.

Preparing for the day

  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook
