Thatcham: your questions answered
Which station should guests use for Thatcham?
Thatcham station, about 0.9 miles south-east of the centre.
We are having a ceremony at United Reformed Church: can you cater afterwards?
Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.
How do you work out quantities?
We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a little extra built in. Accurate numbers help.
What areas do you cover?
London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.
Does paella work for big events?
Yes. Big pans feed plenty of people, and service from the pan is quick.
What about pudding?
Yes, Spanish desserts can be added. Tell us what you have in mind when you ask for a quote.
Do you cook it at the event?
Yes. We arrive with everything we need and cook it there and then, then serve straight from the pan.
Can you bring crockery?
Yes, on request. Crockery, cutlery and napkins, or good-quality disposables are available.
Where we can cook in Thatcham
Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:
- A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
- Access for unloading near the cooking spot
- Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

DIY paella versus live catering
Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.
Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.
Organising for someone else?
Events in public spaces, like parks, usually need permission. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.
Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep everyone informed on the day.

Why choose live paella in Thatcham?
Food trucks and street-food vans serve one portion at a time. A paella pan serves many portions quickly, so everyone can eat at the same time. Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.
What you get with us

How the day works
On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. Around midsummer it stays light in Thatcham until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.
- Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
- Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
- A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
- We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
- Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.
Getting ready for the day
- Check the venue allows live cooking
- Give us your final numbers and diets
- Arrange a covered spot for wet weather

What’s in the pans
Mixed paella
Mixed paella brings meat and seafood together.
Paella Valenciana
In Valencia, the recipe is fiercely debated. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron, and it’s a crowd-pleaser.
Diets, allergies and planning
We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:
- Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
- Let us know about other food at the event
- Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
- Make sure each pan is labelled
Let the paella rest for a few minutes before serving, and that’s when we invite guests up.
Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago.
- Cooked live in giant pans at your event
- Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
- Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
