Live paella across RG18

Our paella catering in RG18

The cooking is half the fun. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the smell does the rest. Typical bookings include festivals, fairs and school events and garden parties and summer barbecues, with paella Valenciana, mixed paella and black rice.

Here’s how the day normally runs: we set up the pans and start the sofrito, your guests watch the rice cook, and it is served hot from the pan when you’re ready to eat.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. Service is straight from the pan, then we pack down.

Near you in Hermitage

Events here are often close to The White Horse pub, Hermitage Primary School and Holy Trinity and the streets around them. For guests coming by rail, the closest station is Newbury Racecourse station, about 4 miles south. Other landmarks nearby include Hampstead Norris Castle (2.4 miles north-east) and West Berkshire Community Hospital (3.3 miles south). The countryside around Hermitage includes Snelsmore Common.

Live paella across RG18: what to know

Across RG18, we cook in 3 towns and 14 villages and hamlets, so the setting can be anything from Newbury, Thatcham and Shaw to a quiet hamlet: level ground, ventilation and agreed timings.

Hermitage: Nearby historic houses include Shaw House (3.4 miles south-west). Historic venues often limit cooking, so ask early if you’re booking one. If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like Holy Trinity, live paella at a garden or venue nearby works well. In Hermitage, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

Should I cook it myself?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

Space, weather and the venue

If a space is not suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

Who books paella catering?

Live paella is made for outdoor events: cooked outside, served hot and shared.

Big or small, live paella works well. Common bookings include:

  • Retirement and leaving parties
  • Office lunches and staff parties
  • Naming days and family parties
  • Summer garden parties

What’s in the pans

Vegetable and vegan paella

A vegetable paella is not an afterthought: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Paella Valenciana

In Valencia, the recipe is fiercely debated. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron, and it’s a crowd-pleaser.

For planners, venues and organisers

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we’ll keep everyone informed on the day.

Hosting a party at home? Send us a picture of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Questions from RG18

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and meat eaters often go back for seconds. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

When should we book?

Early, particularly for summer Saturdays. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

Are premium seafood options available?

We will talk through seafood options when we plan your menu.

Can you bring crockery?

If you need them, yes. Crockery, cutlery and napkins, or good-quality disposables can be added to your booking.

What if the weather’s bad?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

Is halal food available?

Yes. Halal paella is cooked with halal chicken and no pork or alcohol, in a separate pan.

Is the paella cooked on site?

Yes, always. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, in front of your guests.
