Paella catering across RG30
We cook every paella from scratch on the day, starting with a slow sofrito of onion, garlic, peppers and tomato, followed by stock, saffron and rice. On the menu are black rice, paella Valenciana and vegetable paella, and we’re frequently booked for community events and fairs and office lunches and staff parties.
We get there well before serving, unload, set up the burners and prepare the stock. Guests usually gather round to watch while it cooks.
- Send us your date, numbers and venue.
- We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
- We arrive in good time to set up.
- The paella cooks as guests gather round.
- We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

What’s near Norcot
Events here are often close to Battle School, Meadow Park Academy and Tilehurst Methodist Church, among other places. For guests coming by rail, the closest station is Tilehurst station, about 0.8 miles north. Nearby you’ll also find Battle Hospital (1.3 miles east) and Royal Berkshire Regiment Museum (1 mile east). Open spaces near Norcot include South Lake and Moor Copse Nature Reserve.
Live paella across RG30: what to know
Across RG30, we cook in 3 towns and 5 villages and hamlets, so the setting can be anything from Reading, Norcot and Tilehurst to a quiet hamlet: a level, ventilated spot and a clear plan.
Norcot: Historic houses near Norcot include Mapledurham House (1.8 miles north) and Basildon Park (4.9 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. For a christening or wedding at a church such as Tilehurst Methodist Church, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. Around midsummer it stays light in Norcot until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.
Working with your venue
Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep everyone informed on the day.
If you’re booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we’ll explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.
Before you choose a spot
No two venues are the same, so we ask about the space before we confirm. Generally, we look for:
- Level ground for the pans and burners
- Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
- The venue’s permission for live cooking
Occasions we cook for in RG30
Paella is quick to serve and suits mixed diets, so it suits all kinds of occasions. It also gives guests something to watch and talk about.
These are some of the occasions we cater in RG30 and Reading:
- Leaving dos and retirements
- Birthday celebrations
- Office lunches and staff parties
- Christenings and family gatherings
Catering for every guest
Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:
- Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
- Collect dietary needs with your RSVPs
- Confirm allergies by email
- Make sure each pan is labelled
Once the rice is in, it needs about 20 minutes, so we time it carefully. If plans change, tell us and we will adjust.
Bread, salad and lemon go well alongside and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.
About the dishes
Seafood paella
Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It is normally the most photographed pan.
Black rice
Black rice looks dramatic and tastes of the sea.
RG30: your questions answered
How much space do you need?
Not a lot: a flat spot away from anything flammable, with space to serve. If in doubt, send a photo.
Do you cook inside?
Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.
Do you cater for young children?
Children are welcome. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan a pan with them in mind.
How do you work out quantities?
Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a sensible margin. Accurate numbers help.
What happens with live paella?
We arrive with pans, burners and ingredients, cook while everyone watches, and serve at the time you want.
How much is live paella catering?
The price depends on numbers, menu, courses, staff and travel. Send us the details for a quote.
When do you arrive?
That depends on your menu and numbers. We’ll agree arrival, cooking and serving times with you.
