Paella catering in RG1: what to expect
Keep it simple, or go all out: just paella, or paella with tapas, desserts and drinks. We’ll recommend what fits your event. We cook mixed paella, black rice and chicken and chorizo paella, and typical bookings are for naming days and family parties and retirement and leaving parties.
The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, and we agree where that is before the day.
- Contact us with the basics: when, where and how many.
- We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
- A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
- We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
- We serve, then leave our area tidy.
Cost
Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.
Why book with us
- Every diet catered for, pan by pan
- Starters and desserts to complete the menu
- Hot food served quickly from the pan
- No hidden extras in your quote
Getting a price

Around Newtown
Locally, our events take us close to University of Reading library, The Fisherman's Cottage pub and St John and St Stephen, among other places. Other local landmarks include Eldon Square (0.5 miles south-west), Maiden Erlegh School (0.6 miles south-east), New Town Primary School (less than half a mile north-west) and Bulmershe College (under half a mile west). The nearest railway station is Reading station, about 1.1 miles west. Other landmarks nearby include The Oracle (1.1 miles west) and Royal Berkshire Hospital (0.6 miles south-west). Green spaces nearby include Sonning Hill and Fobney Island Wetland Reserve.
Catering events across RG1
From Reading, Earley and West Reading to 0 villages and hamlets, events across RG1 range from town-centre venues to gardens and fields, and live paella suits every kind of setting. In towns, plan parking and access; in villages, tell us about lanes and ground.
Newtown: For guests coming by train, Reading station is about 1.1 miles away. Nearby historic houses include Mapledurham House (4.3 miles north-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. In Newtown, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.
Prices and what affects them
The same guest numbers can mean different prices, because of:
- The length of service
- Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
- How many guests are eating
- Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. The full price is confirmed before you book.
What to tell us
When you get in touch, it helps to tell us:
- Approximate guest numbers, including children
- A photo of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
- Where the event is
- Whether the venue has crockery or staff
Getting a quote is simple: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We’ll come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.
For event organisers in RG1
Hosting a party at home? Send us a photo of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll let you know if live paella is a good fit.
If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can plan ahead.
Live paella or other catering?
Next to a hog roast or barbecue, live paella is easier for vegetarian, vegan and halal guests, thanks to separate pans. It is served quickly from the pan, so queues move.
What your quote should include
- Whether travel is included
- When final numbers are due
- How bad weather is handled
- Allergen information for each dish
Should I cook it myself?
Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.
A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.
Why live paella works
Live paella feeds a crowd quickly and suits most diets, which is why it works for so many occasions. It also gives guests something to watch and talk about.
These are some of the occasions we cater:
- Weddings and evening receptions
- Company summer parties
- Garden parties and summer barbecues
- Fairs, fêtes and festivals
Your questions about paella catering in RG1
Does paella work for big events?
It’s ideal. Large pans and fast service from the pan make it well suited to crowds.
Can we choose the seafood?
We’ll suggest seafood to suit your menu and budget. Premium options are available.
Can you cook in the rain?
We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We plan for rain with you in advance.
Is the paella cooked on site?
Yes, always. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, in front of your guests.
Which paella is most popular?
Most events choose two or three: a mixed or chicken paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. See the sample menu.
Do you cook inside?
Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.
Do we need to provide equipment?
Pans, burners and ingredients all come with us. You just need a suitable spot and access.
- Cooked live in giant pans at your event
- Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
- Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
- Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
