How paella catering works in RG2
One cooking area feeds a lot of people, there is very little waste, and the food is served hot. That’s why it works for so many events. We cook black rice, paella Valenciana and mixed paella, and typical bookings are for birthday celebrations and office lunches and staff parties.
Here’s how the day normally runs: we set up the pans and start the sofrito, your guests watch the rice cook, and we serve straight from the pan when you are ready to eat.
- It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
- You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
- On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
- The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
- We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.
What you will pay
Live paella pricing depends on the event. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. We itemise everything in your quote.

Catering events across RG2
RG2 covers everything from Earley, Shinfield and Arborfield Garrison to 3 small villages and hamlets, and live paella works in all of them. Town events mean planning parking; village events mean planning access.
Shinfield: For guests coming by train, the nearest station is Reading Green Park station, about 2.6 miles north-west. School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Shinfield Infant and Nursery School, can book us as a food stall. Planning an evening event in Shinfield? Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:25pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.
What we need at the venue
We will be honest if a space won’t work, and help find another spot. The main points are:
- Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
- Level ground for the pans and burners
- Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
Live paella or other catering?
If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella adds colour, smell and theatre.
Comparing caterers
- Allergen information for each dish
- How late numbers can change
- Exactly what’s included in the price
- Space, access and power needs
Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.
Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.
About the dishes
Seafood paella
The secret is a well-made seafood stock. Shellfish goes in towards the end so it stays tender.
Paella Valenciana
The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, rather than seafood. It’s often the most popular pan at an event.
Diets, allergies and planning
A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Here’s how:
- Collect dietary needs with your RSVPs
- Tell us how many children are coming
- Tell us what else is being served
- Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
Paella is at its best straight from the pan, so we plan service for when guests are ready to eat.
Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal, or serve your own cake.
Questions from RG2
Can you bring crockery?
We can. Let us know what you have, and we will quote for the rest.
Do you cater for vegetarian guests?
Of course. We cook vegetarian and vegan paellas in their own pans, alongside the meat and seafood pans.
Who clears up?
Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.
Do you cook inside?
Indoors only where ventilation and the venue allow it. Courtyards, doorways and terraces frequently work.
Are premium seafood options available?
Tell us your preferences and we’ll suggest seafood options to suit your menu and budget. Premium options are available.
Can we add tapas or canapés?
Yes. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, while the rice is cooking.
What if the weather’s bad?
A covered, ventilated spot keeps us cooking in the rain. We’ll make a plan B with you.
