Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • How many courses
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • The length of service
  • Whether you need crockery

Larger events typically cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What to tell us

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what to include:

  • The date and rough timings
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • Where the event is
  • Diets and allergies you know about

Every quote is put together for your event. Tell us your date and guest numbers, and we will confirm whether we are available that day.

Paella catering for your event in Milton

Live paella works almost anywhere with a level, ventilated spot: a garden, marquee, barn, courtyard or field in and around Milton. Popular choices include vegetable paella, seafood paella and black rice, and typical bookings are for anniversaries and engagement parties and retirement celebrations.

For a rural spot like Milton, the countryside is part of the appeal: a paella cooking in a garden or field feels right at home. Tell us about access and the ground. Every pan is cooked in front of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Should I cook it myself?

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

Before you choose a spot

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Popular choices

  • Seafood paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Mixed paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Paella Valenciana

Diets, allergies and planning

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat
  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Mention any other courses or food
  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP

Once the rice is in, it needs about 20 minutes, so we time it carefully. If timings shift, we adapt.

We can add sangria and bar staff for your own drinks.

Our caterer checklist

Your questions about paella catering in Milton

What’s the nearest station to Milton for guests?

Appleford station, about 2.5 miles east of the centre.

Do you come out to small places like Milton?

No, we cook in small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

How much is live paella catering?

It depends on guest numbers, the menu, the courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we’ll send a quote.

Can you cook in the rain?

A covered, ventilated spot keeps us cooking in the rain. We’ll talk it through before the day.

Who clears up?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

Should we have more than one paella?

Usually two or three, so every guest has a choice. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we will suggest the mix.

Where do you cater?

We cover London and the South East, Oxfordshire included. See all areas.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

The process

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. In Milton, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Before we arrive

  • Name one person we can ask on the day
  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Leave space around the cooking area
