Paella catering in Britwell Salome, cooked live

Paella was made for feeding a crowd: cooked in the open in a big, shallow pan and shared straight from it. That is what we bring to events in Britwell Salome. On the menu are chicken and chorizo paella, mixed paella and vegan paella, and we are regularly asked to cater retirement and leaving parties and festivals, fairs and school events.

In a small place like Britwell Salome, events are usually in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. We cook every pan in full view of your guests, so the food is hot, fresh and part of the occasion.

Your questions about paella catering in Britwell Salome

How far is Britwell Salome from London?

About 41 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you come out to small places like Britwell Salome?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

How does live paella catering work?

We cook from scratch at your venue in big pans, in front of your guests, and serve straight from the pan.

Do you cook it at the event?

It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook on the day, then serve straight from the pan.

Do you do desserts?

We do. Churros, crema catalana and tarta de Santiago are popular choices.

Should we have more than one paella?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We’ll suggest a split based on your guests.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Yes. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.

The process

The cooking is part of the entertainment. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook while your guests chat. Evenings in Britwell Salome stay light until about 9:25pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. On the day we cook live, timed around your event.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Preparing for the day

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, not seafood. It is frequently the most popular pan at an event.

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

Organising for someone else?

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we will keep you updated on timings and set-up.

If you are organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

Planning for every diet

Most events have a mix of diets. To cater well for them:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
  • Ensure most guests can sit to eat
  • Ensure each pan is labelled

The rice takes about 20 minutes once it goes in, so we time it carefully. If timings shift, we adapt.

We can add sangria and bar staff for your own drinks.

Before you choose a spot

Before the day, we’ll agree where we cook. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and we’ll say what we think before booking.

We can help if you’re planning any of the following:

  • Milestone birthday parties
  • Company summer parties
  • Engagement and anniversary parties
  • Leaving dos and retirements

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Icknield Community College, can book us as a food stall.

How to compare caterers

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.
