Paella catering for Ipsden events

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a proper main dish. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It’s the pan people photograph.

Paella catering in Ipsden, cooked live

Two or three pans side by side cover every guest: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Every pan is cooked on its own. Popular choices include vegan paella, paella Valenciana and vegetable paella, and we are frequently booked for community events and fairs and garden get-togethers.

In a hamlet or village like Ipsden, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a wonderful venue. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Each paella is cooked from scratch on the day, never made in advance and reheated.

Is live paella right for your event?

If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella brings colour, aroma and a touch of Spain. The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Diets, allergies and planning

Nearly every event has some special diets. To plan for them:

  • Make sure most guests can sit to eat
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Make sure each pan is labelled
  • Count adults and children separately

Paella is at its best straight from the pan, so we plan service for when guests are ready to eat.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further and suit guests who are not big rice eaters.

Space, weather and the venue

The right spot keeps things safe and helps the paella cook evenly. We look for:

  • Parking close enough to carry equipment
  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and we will say what we think.

Common questions in Ipsden

How far is Ipsden from London?

About 43 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Do you cater in the North Wessex Downs National Landscape?

Yes. Some venues there have rules about vehicles, ground and cooking, so check with yours. We’ll follow the site rules.

How much is live paella catering?

The price depends on numbers, menu, courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we’ll send a quote.

Do you clear up afterwards?

We pack down our cooking area after service. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

Do you do starters?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. Tapas first, paella to follow.

What is live paella catering?

We set up a cooking area at your venue, cook the paella from scratch in large pans while your guests watch, and serve it straight from the pan.

Can you cook indoors?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we will check with you and the venue.

Does paella work for big events?

Yes. Large pans and fast service from the pan make it well suited to crowds.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Distance and access to the venue
  • How many courses
  • Your choice of paellas
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables

Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.

What to tell us

To check availability and price, we need:

  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • Where the event is
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers

Send us the date, your venue or OX10 postcode and guest numbers, plus any dietary needs, and you will get a menu idea and a price. Just use our quote form.

The process

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. We need a level, ventilated spot, which we agree with you beforehand. Around midsummer it stays light in Ipsden until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The paella cooks as guests gather round.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Getting ready for the day

  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Check the venue allows live cooking

How to get a price
