Paella catering in Crowell Hill

Paella catering for your event in Crowell Hill

Paella is generous food: giant pans, saffron colour and a toasted crust that everyone fights over. It makes the food an event in itself. We’re frequently asked to cater summer garden parties and family celebrations and christenings, serving mixed paella, seafood paella and chicken and chorizo paella.

Somewhere as small as Crowell Hill, a garden or field is often the venue. Country lanes and long drives are no problem if we know about them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

How it works

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive, set up and start cooking, the rice cooks in front of your guests, and we serve straight from the pan at the agreed time. Around midsummer it stays light in Crowell Hill until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up the cooking area and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Confirm the venue is happy with live cooking

Dietary needs and planning tips

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Make sure each pan is labelled

If you’ve booked staff, they’ll serve, clear and help keep things moving, so you can enjoy your guests.

Bread, salad and lemon go well alongside.

Should I cook it myself?

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

The menu, dish by dish

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, not seafood. It’s a favourite with guests who don’t eat fish.

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It’s a striking addition to a seafood menu.
