Live paella across the Isle of Wight

About paella catering in the Isle of Wight

One cooking area feeds plenty of people, very little goes to waste, and the food arrives hot. It is why live paella suits so many kinds of event. Typical bookings include engagement and anniversary parties and birthday celebrations, serving seafood paella, black rice and vegan paella.

Once the rice is in, we do not stir it. That’s what gives paella its separate grains and crispy base. The smell normally draws people over.

Local landmarks in Newport

In Newport, that can mean a party near Castle Inn, The Man in the Moon and Seaclose Park and the streets around them. Also close by are Christ The King College (0.6 miles south-west), Island Innovation VI Form Campus (less than half a mile south-east) and Nine Acres Primary School (less than half a mile south). Well-known places in the area include Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and St Mary's Hospital (0.8 miles north). Open spaces near Newport include Briddlesford Nature Reserve and Mill Hill.

Planning live paella in the Isle of Wight

The Isle of Wight covers everything from Newport, Ryde and Cowes to 102 small villages and hamlets, and live paella works in all of them. In towns, plan parking and access; in villages, tell us about lanes and ground. 116 of the places we cover in the Isle of Wight are within about 6 miles of the sea, where we always plan shelter from the wind, and seafood paella is popular.

Newport: Nearby historic houses include Carisbrooke Castle (1 mile south-west) and Gatcombe House (2.5 miles south). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. If you’re organising a summer fair for a school like Nine Acres Primary School, a paella stall is a crowd-pleaser. Around midsummer it stays light in Newport until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

Live paella or other catering?

Next to a hog roast or barbecue, paella makes vegetarian, vegan and halal guests easier to cater for, because each paella has its own pan. It’s served quickly from the pan, so queues move.

Questions to ask before booking

  • What the caterer needs from your venue
  • Who provides the crockery

Dishes our guests love

Mixed paella

Chicken and seafood together, and a popular all-rounder.

Black rice

Black rice looks dramatic and tastes of the sea, and is popular with adventurous guests.

What affects the price in the Isle of Wight

There’s nothing hidden: the price is based on:

  • Distance and access to the venue
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Your choice of paellas
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff

Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you can choose exactly what you need.

Details that help

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Please include:

  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • The date and rough timings
  • What the venue already provides

Each quote is tailored to your event. Give us your date and numbers, and we will confirm whether we are available that day.

DIY paella versus live catering

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

Questions from the Isle of Wight

Can you provide dessert?

Yes. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana, or you can serve your own cake.

Can you feed a lot of people?

Very much so. We plan the number of pans and serving points around your numbers.

How much paella per person?

Yes. We cook from scratch in large pans at your venue, in front of your guests.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We’ll suggest a split based on your guests.

Do you take everything away?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Table clearing is available with waiting staff.

How much space do you need?

Level ground for the burners, pans and a table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.
