Paella catering for Brookgreen events

Paella catering around Brookgreen

Brookgreen is about 7 miles south-west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. From the centre of Brookgreen to the outskirts, we offer the same service: live cooking, separate pans for every diet and a clear price. Brookgreen is one of 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight we cover. Our events stretch from Brookgreen to Southampton (about 19 miles away).

Nearby historic houses include Mottistone Manor (0.9 miles north-east) and Westcourt Manor (3.6 miles east). Historic venues often limit cooking, so ask early if you’re booking one. Brookgreen is within about 5 miles of the sea, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

This part of the Isle of Wight takes in PO30. Other places close to Brookgreen for paella catering include Brook (1 mile north-west), Hulverstone (1 mile north-east), Dunsbury (1 mile north-west), Chilton Green (1 mile east) and Shalcombe (2 miles north). Further out, we also cater in Newport (7 miles north-east), Ryde (13 miles north-east), Cowes (10 miles north-east), Sandown (12 miles east), Shanklin (12 miles east) and Ventnor (11 miles east). If your event is somewhere remote, let us know early and we will plan the trip.

Questions from Brookgreen

We’re having a ceremony at St. Mary's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Is Brookgreen too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Do you take everything away?

We clear our cooking area away when service is finished. Clearing guests’ plates and tables can be added with waiting staff.

How long does the paella take?

We get there in good time to set up. The rice itself takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.

Will there be enough food?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Let us know about any other food. See how much paella per person.

How many different paellas?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We’ll suggest a split based on your guests.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Two or three is usual: chicken or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. See the sample menu.

What equipment do you bring?

We bring the pans, burners and ingredients. You just need a suitable spot and access.

DIY paella versus live catering

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

For event organisers in Brookgreen

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so everyone eats promptly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Planning the cooking area

Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but there are a few things to check:

  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed

Brookgreen is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we will tell you honestly.

How it works

Here’s how the day generally runs: we set up the pans and start the sofrito, the rice cooks in front of your guests, and it is served hot from the pan at the agreed time. Planning an evening event in Brookgreen? Sunset is around 8:55pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:10pm in late September; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.

What’s in the pans

Mixed paella

Chicken and seafood together.

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, rather than seafood. It is often the most popular pan at an event.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is ready all at once, so everyone eats together. There is no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.
