Diets, allergies and planning

Most events have a mix of diets. To plan for them:

  • Make sure each pan is labelled
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Collect dietary needs with your RSVPs

If you’ve booked staff, they’ll serve, clear and help keep things moving, so you can relax.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.

Paella catering for your event in Elmfield

You can keep it simple or build a full menu: paella on its own, or with canapés, table tapas, desserts and sangria. We’ll suggest what suits your event. We’re often asked to cater garden parties and summer barbecues and fairs, fêtes and festivals, with mixed paella, vegan paella and vegetable paella.

In a smaller place like Elmfield, a garden party is frequently the simplest option: no hire fees, and live paella feeds everyone without anyone stuck in the kitchen. Let us know about access to the house. We serve straight from the pan, so it’s hot and generous, and service is quick once it is ready.

Elmfield is about 1 mile south-east of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. For an event in Elmfield, we can cook in gardens, marquees, barns, courtyards and offices. We cater in 125 places in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. Our events stretch from Elmfield to Southampton (about 17 miles away).

For a christening or wedding at a church such as St John's Church, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. Nearby historic houses include Nunwell House (2.6 miles south) and Morton Manor (3.2 miles south). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. Elmfield is within about a mile of the sea, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

Planning the cooking area

If a space isn’t suitable, we’ll tell you. The main points are:

  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot

For somewhere as remote as Elmfield, early notice helps us plan the trip.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is ready all at once, so everyone eats together. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want.

Why choose Love Paella in Elmfield

  • Live cooking, not reheated food
  • Fast service from the pan
  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them
  • Events in Elmfield and across the Isle of Wight

See Our prices page Or Our guide to catering costs.

Step by step

Once the rice is in, we do not stir it. That is what gives paella its separate grains and crispy base. The smell generally draws people over. In Elmfield, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. You share your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive early to set up the burners and pans.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Preparing for the day

  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Leave space around the cooking area

How we price paella catering

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • The paellas you choose
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Travel, parking and access

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • The date and rough timings
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Paella Valenciana

Paella Valenciana is the original: chicken, beans and saffron, rather than seafood. It is a favourite with guests who don’t eat fish.
