Dietary needs and planning tips

Nearly every event has some special diets. To plan for them:

  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Ask for labels on each pan
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
  • Flag any coeliac guests, not just gluten-free preferences

After service, we pack down our cooking area.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter as the rice cooks.

Paella catering in Newbridge, cooked live

A single cooking set-up can feed a crowd, there’s very little waste, and the food is served hot. That’s why it works for so many events. Whether it’s leaving dos and retirements and office lunches and staff parties, we can cook mixed paella, vegetable paella and vegan paella and more.

For a rural spot like Newbridge, the countryside is part of the appeal: a huge pan in a garden or field fits perfectly. Let us know about access and ground conditions. Timings are planned around your event, so the paella is ready when you want to eat.

Choosing a paella caterer

Newbridge: venues, travel and local tips

Newbridge is about 5 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. For paella catering in Newbridge, we cater in back gardens, halls with outdoor space, barns, marquees and offices in and around Newbridge. We cater in 125 places in the Isle of Wight. We cook right across the region, from Newbridge to Southampton (16 miles away).

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Shalfleet Church of England Primary School, can book us as a food stall. Nearby historic houses include Swainston Manor (1.8 miles east) and Mottistone Manor (2.4 miles south). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. The coast is within about 5 miles of Newbridge, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.

We cater events across PO41. That could mean an event in a garden on Main Road and Clay Lane or the roads around them. If your venue is just outside Newbridge, we also cover Ningwood (1 mile north-west), Calbourne (1 mile south-east), Wellow (1 mile west), Shalcombe (1 mile south-west) and Thorley Street (2 miles west). Further out, we also cater in Newport (5 miles east), Ryde (11 miles east), Cowes (7 miles north-east), Sandown (12 miles east), Shanklin (11 miles east) and Ventnor (11 miles south-east). If your event is somewhere remote, let us know early and we’ll plan the trip.

Other landmarks nearby include Calbourne Water Mill And Rural Museum (0.5 miles south) and Whitecroft Hospital (5.2 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Westover Down.

  • Nearby, you will find The Sun pub (1 mile south-east)

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you will still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. We take care of all of it.

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.

What’s in the pans

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a paella that stands on its own. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Black rice

Squid ink rice is bold and savoury.

Working with your venue

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Tell us what your venue needs and we’ll work to it.

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so guests are fed quickly. Let us know how long the food break is.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • The paellas you choose
  • How long we’re needed on site
  • Parking and unloading

Larger events normally cost less per head, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

What to tell us

When you contact us, it helps to tell us:

  • The date and rough timings
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • A picture of the cooking space, if it’s a garden or field
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers

Still deciding on the menu? That is fine: give us the basics about your event, and we’ll suggest a menu. Start when you’re ready: use our quote form.

Planning the cooking area

The right spot keeps things safe and helps the paella cook evenly. We need:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

Newbridge is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

FAQs for Newbridge

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St. Michael the Archangel?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

What happens if it rains?

Rain does not stop us, as long as there’s a ventilated cover. We’ll make a plan B with you.

How many different paellas?

Most events have two or three: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We’ll help you decide the split.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

If you need them, yes. Crockery, cutlery and napkins, or good-quality disposables can be added to your booking.

How much is live paella catering?

We quote for each event, so you only pay for what you need. Give us your date, numbers and menu ideas and we will reply with a price.

Is live paella good for a large crowd?

Very much so. We size pans and serving points to your guest list.

Can you cook halal paella?

Yes, on request. Tell us how many guests need halal food, and we will cook a separate pan.

Step by step

Service is quick: the paella goes straight from the pan to the plate, so large groups are fed quickly. Afterwards we clear our cooking area away. Around midsummer it stays light in Newbridge until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, guest numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We put together a menu and a clear quote.
  3. On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. We serve it hot from the pan and clear our area when service ends.

Before we arrive

  • Pick a flat, firm spot for us to cook
  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Share the running order, including any speeches
