Paella catering in Calbourne

Paella catering for your event in Calbourne

Paella was made for feeding a crowd: cooked outdoors in a wide, shallow pan and shared. That’s what we bring to events in Calbourne. Whether it’s office lunches and staff parties and summer garden parties, we can cook vegan paella, mixed paella and black rice for your guests.

In a small place like Calbourne, events are normally in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we will plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. We serve straight from the pan, so every plate is hot, and service is quick once it is ready.

Why choose live paella in Calbourne?

If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella brings colour, aroma and a touch of Spain. Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

Calbourne: your questions answered

Can you cater a reception after a service at All Saints' Church?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Do you come out to small places like Calbourne?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

How does live paella catering work?

We set up a cooking area at your venue, cook the paella from scratch in large pans while your guests watch, and serve it straight from the pan.

Can you cater for vegetarians and vegans?

Yes, and meat eaters frequently go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

Can we choose the seafood?

Tell us your preferences and we will suggest seafood options to suit your menu and budget. Premium options are available.

How soon do we need to book?

As soon as you have a date. Popular dates book up first, so get in touch early.

What do you need at the venue?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, plus the venue’s agreement to cooking.

How many different paellas?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We will help you decide the split.

Planning live paella in Calbourne

Calbourne is about 5 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. We cook at events in gardens, halls and venues around Calbourne and the surrounding area. Calbourne is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight we cover. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 16 miles away.

For a christening or wedding at a church such as All Saints' Church, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone. Calbourne is within about 6 miles of the sea, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

This part of the Isle of Wight takes in PO30, so your event can be anywhere in it. Local streets include Sun Hill, Elm Lane and Lynch Lane; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. Larger places within reach include Newport (5 miles east), Ryde (11 miles east), Cowes (7 miles north-east), Sandown (11 miles east), Shanklin (10 miles east) and Ventnor (10 miles south-east). For an event at a remote venue, let us know early and we’ll plan the trip.

DIY paella versus live catering

Doing it yourself saves money, but the host ends up stuck at the stove. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

Where we can cook in Calbourne

Before the day, we’ll agree where we cook. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

For somewhere as remote as Calbourne, early notice helps us plan the trip.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron.

Seafood paella

The secret is a well-made seafood stock. Shellfish goes in towards the end so it stays tender.

Planners, venues and businesses

Events in public spaces, like parks, usually need permission. We will provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

Hosting a party at home? Send us a photo of the garden and tell us about access, and we will let you know if live paella is a good fit.

Catering for every guest

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Here’s how:

  • Confirm allergies by email
  • Give us separate numbers for children
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice
  • Mention any other courses or food

After service, we pack down our cooking area.

Crockery, cutlery and waiting staff are available if your venue doesn’t provide them.

How the day works

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you’re free to enjoy your event. Any tapas or canapés are served first while the paella cooks. Around midsummer it stays light in Calbourne until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are generally served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:00pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan a menu that covers every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. We serve hot from the pan and clear our cooking area.

Getting ready for the day

  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Confirm numbers and diets before the day
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable

Getting a price
