Catering for every guest

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Tell us how many children are coming
  • Ensure most people can sit to eat
  • Plan where rubbish goes
  • Warn the neighbours

We are set up before guests arrive, so the cooking is under way as people arrive.

Churros with chocolate are a hit with children and adults.

Space, weather and the venue

If a space isn’t suitable, we’ll tell you, and suggest an alternative. The main points are:

  • A picture of the garden helps us check the space
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo

Calbourne is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly.

For event organisers in Calbourne

Events in public spaces, like parks, usually need permission. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

Planning a party in Calbourne

Calbourne is about 5 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Wherever your party is in the PO30 area, we can bring the pans to you. We cover all 125 towns and villages in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. Our nearest city page is Southampton, about 16 miles away.

Historic houses near Calbourne include Swainston Manor (1.2 miles north-east) and Mottistone Manor (2.2 miles south-west). If you’re hiring a historic venue for a big birthday, check its rules on outside caterers first. The coast is within about 6 miles, so seafood paella frequently features, and we always plan for wind.

This part of the Isle of Wight takes in PO30, so your party can be anywhere in it. From Sun Hill, Elm Lane and Lynch Lane or a nearby road, we can cook there. If your venue is just outside Calbourne, we also cover Newbridge (1 mile north-west), Ningwood (2 miles north-west), Shalcombe (2 miles west), Wellow (2 miles west) and Hulverstone (3 miles south-west). Further out, we also cater in Newport (5 miles east), Ryde (11 miles east), Cowes (7 miles north-east), Sandown (11 miles east), Shanklin (10 miles east) and Ventnor (10 miles south-east). If your party is somewhere remote, tell us early so we can plan the journey.

Well-known places in the area include Calbourne Water Mill And Rural Museum (0.6 miles west) and Carisbrooke Castle (3.8 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Brighstone Down.

What paella party catering costs

There are no hidden charges: the price is based on:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • The number of people
  • Waiting and bar staff

If you have a budget in mind, tell us, and we’ll put together a menu that fits. Even a simple menu can be a feast.

What we need to know

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Expected numbers
  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • The venue or postcode

Send us the date, your venue or PO30 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, send us your details through our quote form.

Live paella or other catering?

Compared with a barbecue, paella is served all at once, so nobody waits for the next batch. And nobody is stuck at the grill. Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so the menu you choose affects the price. We will suggest options to suit your budget.

What you get with us

  • Paella cooked from scratch on site
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts
  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests

DIY paella versus live catering

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Calbourne questions

We’re having a ceremony at All Saints' Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking normally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

When should I book?

As early as you can for summer weekends, which fill up first. Check your date with us.

Is it really cooked live?

Yes, always. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, in front of your guests.

Can you do a kids’ option?

Paella is popular with children, especially a mild chicken one. Tell us how many and their ages.

Do you cover Calbourne?

We do. Calbourne is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

Can you cater a party at a village hall?

Yes, if there’s a suitable outdoor or ventilated spot to cook. Check the venue allows live cooking.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a little extra built in. Accurate numbers help.

What happens on the day

Your timings come first. If things run behind, we adjust the cooking so it is served at its best. At midsummer, it’s light in Calbourne until about 9:20pm, which gives a garden party a long evening. In late September it’s dark by about 7:10pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. Tell us when and where, and how many.
  2. You get a menu and a quote.
  3. We arrive before your guests and set up.
  4. The paella cooks while your guests chat.
  5. We serve, then clear our area.

Preparing for the day

  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely

Getting a price

Most quotes start with a few simple details: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. You can send us your details through our quote form.
