How our paella catering works in Thorley Street

A couple of different pans covers everyone: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. Every pan is cooked on its own. For big birthdays and anniversaries and engagement parties, we will put together a menu of vegan paella, vegetable paella and black rice and more.

Somewhere as small as Thorley Street, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we will plan for them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

Paella catering around Thorley Street

Thorley Street is about 6 miles south-east of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. For an event in Thorley Street, we cater in back gardens, halls with outdoor space, barns, marquees and offices. We cook in 125 places in the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. We cook right across the region, from Thorley Street to Southampton (about 16 miles away).

Nearby historic houses include Mottistone Manor (3.4 miles south-east) and Swainston Manor (3.9 miles east). Historic venues frequently limit cooking, so ask early if you are booking one. The coast is within about 3 miles of Thorley Street, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

Anywhere in PO41, we can bring paella catering to you. That could mean an event in a garden on Hill Place Lane and Holmfield Avenue or the roads around them. If your venue is just outside Thorley Street, we also cover Thorley (1 mile west), Wellow (1 mile south-east), Ningwood (1 mile east), Shalcombe (2 miles south-east) and Newbridge (2 miles east). We also cook in nearby towns such as Newport (7 miles east), Ryde (13 miles east), Cowes (8 miles north-east), Sandown (14 miles east), Shanklin (13 miles east) and Ventnor (13 miles south-east). Remote venues take a little more planning, so contact us in good time.

Live paella or other catering?

A cold buffet is simple but has no theatre, and food can sit out for a while. Paella is cooked live and served hot. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want.

Why Thorley Street hosts choose us

  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • Plates, cutlery and waiting staff available
  • Starters and desserts to complete the menu
  • Fast service from the pan

Working with your venue

For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so guests are fed quickly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Organising a club, school or community event in Thorley Street? Paella is quick to serve to a crowd and suits most diets. Give us the details and we will suggest a plan.

Should I cook it myself?

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Try these:

  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
  • Ask for labels on each pan
  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down

A short rest after cooking helps, which is when we generally call guests over.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further and suit guests who aren’t big rice eaters.

How we price paella catering

Your quote will be clear and itemised. What affects it most:

  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Timings and hours
  • Guest numbers
  • Your choice of paellas

There is no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. Your quote spells it all out.

What to tell us

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Which courses you have in mind
  • A picture of the space, if you can
  • What the venue already provides
  • The date and rough timings

Where we can cook in Thorley Street

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We need:

  • Flat, firm ground for the cooking area
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot

For somewhere as remote as Thorley Street, early notice helps us plan the trip.

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and we will say what we think.

Questions from Thorley Street

Can you cook near the sea around Thorley Street?

Yes, with a sheltered cooking spot. Wind is the main issue on the coast, so we plan shelter.

Do you come out to small places like Thorley Street?

No, we cook in small places too. Let us know about access and parking.

What happens if it rains?

Rain does not stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We will talk it through before the day.

Do you cook it at the event?

Yes. We bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook it there and then, then serve straight from the pan.

Can you feed a lot of people?

Very much so. We size pans and serving points to your guest list.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

A gluten-free pan is no problem. Tell us about any coeliac guests when you book so we take the right care.

Are premium seafood options available?

We will suggest seafood to suit your menu and budget. Premium shellfish can be added.

Step by step

It is a relaxed, well-organised set-up. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up our cooking area, and get on with cooking and serving. Evenings in Thorley Street stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.

  1. Send us your date, numbers and venue.
  2. We plan the menu with you, including every diet.
  3. We arrive in good time to set up.
  4. The sofrito, stock and rice go in, and guests gather to watch.
  5. Service is straight from the pan, then we pack down.
