Locksgreen: venues, travel and local tips

Locksgreen is about 3 miles west of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Whether your event is in the middle of Locksgreen or on the outskirts, paella catering works the same way: paella cooked live, every diet catered for and a clear quote. We cook in all 125 towns and villages across the Isle of Wight. We cook right across the region, from Locksgreen to Southampton (about 14 miles away).

The coast is within about 5 miles of Locksgreen, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

We cater events across PO30 and the streets around it. If your venue is just outside Locksgreen, we also cover Porchfield (1 mile north-east), Newtown (1 mile west), Great Thorness (1 mile north-east), Forest Side (2 miles east) and Noke Common (3 miles east). Larger places within reach include Newport (3 miles east), Ryde (9 miles east), Cowes (4 miles north-east), Sandown (10 miles south-east), Shanklin (10 miles south-east) and Ventnor (11 miles south-east). Remote venues take a little more planning, so ask early about your event.

Other landmarks nearby include Calbourne Water Mill And Rural Museum (3 miles south-west) and Carisbrooke Castle (3.1 miles south-east). Not far away are Brighstone Down.

  • Local pubs include Sportsman's Rest pub (less than half a mile north)

Paella compared with other options

Food trucks and street-food vans serve one portion at a time. A big pan serves many guests fast, which suits weddings and parties where everyone eats together. Live paella pricing depends on the event. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. Your quote spells it all out.

Locksgreen: your questions answered

Can you cook near the sea around Locksgreen?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Wind is the main issue on the coast, so we plan shelter.

Do you come out to small places like Locksgreen?

No, we cook in small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Which paellas suit our guests?

Most events choose two or three: chicken or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. Our menu lists the options.

How much is live paella catering?

It depends on guest numbers, the menu, the courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we will send a quote.

Is the paella cooked on site?

Yes. We cook from scratch in large pans at your venue, where your guests can watch.

Is the paella gluten-free?

A gluten-free pan is no problem. Tell us about any coeliac guests when you book so we can plan it carefully.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Yes, and it’s a popular combination. Tapas go out first, then the paella.

Can you supply plates?

If you need them, yes. Proper crockery or quality disposables are available.

The process

Here’s how the day usually runs: we arrive, set up and start cooking, your guests watch the rice cook, and it is served hot from the pan at the agreed time. Evenings in Locksgreen stay light until about 9:20pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:10pm; once it’s dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Preparing for the day

  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • Travel, parking and access
  • Your choice of paellas
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • How many courses

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. Our quotes spell it all out.

Getting an accurate quote

The more we know about your event, the better we can plan. Try to include:

  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • The date and time of the event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, halal and allergy numbers
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, along with any dietary needs, and we will reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, use our quote form.

Planning the cooking area

We’ll agree the cooking spot with you before the day. A good spot ticks these boxes:

  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • Somewhere close to park and unload

Locksgreen is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

Popular choices

  • Seafood paella
  • Mixed paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Vegan paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella

There’s no kitchen needed, so it is at home in gardens, fields and marquees where other catering struggles.

  • Naming days and family parties
  • Company summer parties

  • Space, access and power needs
  • The deposit and payment dates

Choosing a paella caterer

Diets, allergies and planning

Nearly every event has some special diets. To cater well for them:

  • Let us know about other food at the event
  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Put allergy details in writing

Paella is at its best straight from the pan, so we plan service for when guests are ready to eat.

Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal, or serve your own cake.

What’s in the pans

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a paella that stands on its own. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Mixed paella

Paella mixta combines meat and seafood in one pan.

Organising for someone else?

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so guests are fed quickly. Let us know how long the food break is.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’ll work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.
