Space, weather and the venue
Most outdoor spaces and many venues work for live paella, but a few things matter:
- Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
- Open air or a well-ventilated covered spot
- The venue’s permission for live cooking
Chale is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we will plan the journey.
If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think before you book.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.
Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

Why choose live paella in Chale?
Next to a hog roast or barbecue, live paella is easier for vegetarian, vegan and halal guests, thanks to separate pans. It is served quickly from the pan, so queues move. Extras such as tapas, desserts, sangria, staff and crockery are priced separately, so you only pay for what you want.
Why book with us
- A clear, itemised quote
- Every diet catered for, pan by pan
- Everything cooked fresh at your event
- Hot food served quickly from the pan
Catering for every guest
Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:
- Let us know about other food at the event
- Collect dietary needs with your RSVPs
- Ensure each pan is labelled
- Confirm allergies by email
If you’ve booked staff, they’ll serve, clear and help keep things moving, so you can relax.
Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal.
Planning live paella in Chale
Chale is about 7 miles south of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. For paella catering in Chale, we can cook in gardens, marquees, barns, courtyards and offices in and around Chale. We cater in 125 places across the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. We cook right across the region, from Chale to Southampton (22 miles away).
If you’re celebrating after a service at a church like St Andrew's Church, live paella at a garden or venue nearby works well. Chale is within about 6 miles of the sea, and seafood paella always feels right near the sea. Sea breezes can be strong, so we plan a sheltered cooking spot.
We cater events across PO38. Local streets include Church Place, Upper House Lane and Blythe Shute; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. Other places close to Chale for paella catering include Blackgang (1 mile south-east), Pyle (1 mile north-west), Chale Green (1 mile north), Atherfield Green (1 mile north-west) and Niton (2 miles south-east). We also cook in nearby towns such as Newport (7 miles north), Ryde (11 miles north-east), Cowes (11 miles north), Sandown (8 miles north-east), Shanklin (7 miles east) and Ventnor (5 miles east). Questions from Chale
Can you cook near the sea around Chale?
Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Wind is the main issue on the coast, so we plan shelter.
Do you come out to small places like Chale?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.
Do you cater for young children?
Of course. A simple chicken paella is generally popular with children. Tell us how many are coming.
How many paellas should we have?
Typically two or three, so every guest has a choice. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we will suggest the mix.
Is paella enough as a main?
It’s a full meal on its own. Many hosts add tapas first or dessert after.
Do you cater for vegetarian guests?
Of course. Vegetarian and vegan paellas are cooked in separate pans.
Do you cook it at the event?
It is. We arrive with everything we need and cook on the day, then serve straight from the pan.
What about pudding?
We can add a dessert. Let us know if you’d like one in your enquiry.
Planners, venues and businesses
Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we’ll explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.
For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can hold the date.
Prices and what affects them
Live paella pricing is straightforward once we know the basics:
- The paellas you choose
- Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
- How many staff you need
- How many courses
Comparing caterers? Look at what each quote includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.
What we need to know
To check availability and price, we need:
- The date and time of the event
- A picture of where we’d cook
- Any dietary needs and allergies
- The courses you’d like
We need only a few details to quote: date, location, guest numbers and diets. You can use our quote form.
About the dishes
Seafood paella
Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It’s the pan people photograph.
Black rice
Squid ink rice is bold and savoury.
The process
The cooking is part of the entertainment. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook. In Chale, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:10pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.
- Contact us with the basics: when, where and how many.
- Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
- Closer to the day, we confirm timings and the cooking spot.
- On the day we cook live, timed around your event.
- We serve, then leave our area tidy.
Before we arrive
- Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
- Check the venue allows live cooking
- Choose a level spot for the cooking area
