About our paella catering in Haylands

Live paella catering means we bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients to your event and cook in front of your guests. Once it’s ready, we serve it hot from the pan. We cook mixed paella, seafood paella and vegan paella, and we’re frequently booked for community events and fairs and weddings, from canapés to evening food.

A place like Haylands frequently has a hall, a club or a pub garden nearby; live paella can work at any of them, given permission and outdoor space. We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, each in a separate pan.

Catering an event in Haylands

Haylands is about 1 mile south-west of Ryde, in the Isle of Wight. Events in Haylands are planned around your venue and timings: a quote, a plan and live cooking on the day. Haylands is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight where we cook. Our events stretch from Haylands to Southampton (about 17 miles away).

For guests coming by train, Ryde St Johns Road station is about 0.9 miles away. School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Haylands Primary School, can book us as a food stall. Haylands is within about 2 miles of the sea, so a seafood pan is a popular choice. Coastal wind means we plan a sheltered spot.

Paella catering in PO33 is planned around your venue and your guests. Local streets include Play Lane, Pell Lane and Upton Road; an event at home on any of them works well with live paella. We also cook at events in Upton (1 mile south-west), Ryde (1 mile north-east), Oakfield (1 mile east), Binstead (1 mile north-west) and Elmfield (1 mile east). Further out, we also cater in Newport (6 miles west), Cowes (6 miles north-west), Sandown (4 miles south), Shanklin (6 miles south), Ventnor (9 miles south) and East Cowes (5 miles north-west). Some remote venues need extra planning, so ask early about your event.

A little further out are Sandown Castle (4.4 miles south) and Gosport War Memorial Hospital (5.3 miles north). The countryside around Haylands includes Alan Hersey Nature Reserve and Brading Down.

  • Nearby schools include Ryde Academy (less than half a mile north) and Ryde School with Upper Chine (0.8 miles north-east)
  • Local pubs include The Falcon pub (0.5 miles north-east)

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: artichokes, beans, peppers and saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, and is normally served with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

What we need at the venue

If a space is not suitable, we will tell you. What matters most:

  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

Haylands is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly before booking.

Popular choices

  • Seafood paella
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Mixed paella
  • Vegetable paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Paella Valenciana

Dietary needs and planning tips

We take diets and allergies seriously. Help us by following these steps:

  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Choose two or three paellas so every guest has a choice

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive in good time, set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

We can add sangria and bar staff to serve drinks you provide.

Prices and what affects them

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Guest numbers
  • Timings and hours
  • Parking and unloading

Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. We’ll suggest options to suit your budget.

Details that help

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • The venue or postcode
  • A picture of where we’d cook

Send us the date, your venue or PO33 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and we will reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, fill in our quote form.

Haylands: your questions answered

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Can you cater a reception after a service at Church of St. Michael and All Angels?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is normally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.

Which paellas suit our guests?

It depends on your guests. Chicken and mixed paellas tend to go first, alongside seafood and vegetable or vegan pans.

Can you serve drinks?

Sangria can be added, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

Do you come to Haylands?

We do. Haylands is one of the places we cover. Tell us your date and we’ll check availability.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three covers most guests. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we’ll suggest the mix.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

We can cook a gluten-free paella in its own pan. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we can plan it carefully.

What equipment do you bring?

We bring all the cooking equipment. Let us know what your venue has, like tables or crockery.

Live paella or other catering?

Barbecues cook in batches, so food comes off in waves. Paella is cooked as one big dish and served together. The cost per head normally falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.

Why book with us

The process

Expect a friendly, organised team. We agree arrival and serving times in advance, set up our cooking area, and get on with cooking and serving. Around midsummer it stays light in Haylands until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening events are typically served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 4:00pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We arrive early, set up the cooking area and start the stock.
  4. The paella cooks in front of your guests, with tapas first if you’ve chosen them.
  5. We serve it hot from the pan and clear our area when service ends.

Preparing for the day

  • Make sure we can park close by to unload
  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Share the running order, including any speeches

Working with your venue

Wedding planners and venue coordinators are welcome to contact us directly, and we’ll keep everyone informed on the day.

Venues frequently have their own rules about outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.
