Choosing a paella caterer

Paella catering for your event in Freshwater

Watching it cook is part of the experience. People drift over as the sofrito sizzles and the rice turns gold, and the aroma does the rest. Typical bookings include christenings and family gatherings and anniversaries and engagement parties, with paella Valenciana, mixed paella and chicken and chorizo paella.

For a place the size of Freshwater, your own garden is often the best venue: no hire fees, and live paella feeds everyone without anyone stuck in the kitchen. Let us know about access to the house. Everything is cooked from scratch at your event, never made in advance and reheated, and served the moment it is ready.

Common questions in Freshwater

What about events near the coast?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

We’re having a ceremony at All Saints' Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is usually elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Can you bring crockery?

If you need them, yes. Proper crockery or quality disposables can be added to your booking.

Which areas do you serve?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Freshwater.

Is paella a full meal?

Yes. Paella with bread and salad makes a full main course.

Do you cover Freshwater?

Yes. We cover London and the South East, and Freshwater is within our area and the rest of the Isle of Wight. For a quote, fill in our quote form.

Should we have more than one paella?

Two or three covers most guests. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we’ll suggest the mix.

Is halal food available?

Yes. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in a separate pan.

What affects the price in Freshwater

The price comes down to a few factors:

  • Guest numbers
  • The length of service
  • How many staff you need
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. Your quote spells it all out.

What to tell us

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Which courses you have in mind
  • Any dietary needs and allergies

A detailed enquiry gets a more accurate quote: venue, timings, courses and extras. When you are ready, fill in our quote form.

A closer look at the menu

Vegetable and vegan paella

A vegetable paella is not an afterthought: peppers, artichokes and beans with saffron.

Seafood paella

Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, cooked until the rice is golden. It is typically the most photographed pan.

Step by step

We arrive in good time before you want to eat, unload, set up the burners and prepare the stock. Your guests are welcome to watch while it cooks. Around midsummer it stays light in Freshwater until about 9:20pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:10pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 4:05pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. Expect a menu idea and a clear, itemised price.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Getting ready for the day

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Give us your final numbers and diets
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable

DIY paella versus live catering

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. A caterer handles all of that.

Is live paella right for your event?

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs a level, ventilated spot and the venue’s permission to cook, and gives guests something to watch. Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so it helps to tell us about your venue. The full price is confirmed before you book.

Why book with us

  • Drinks service on request
  • Cooking your guests will gather round to watch
  • Options for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, each in its own pan
  • No hidden extras in your quote

Dietary needs and planning tips

Most events have a mix of diets. To plan for them:

  • Send allergies to us in writing
  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease
  • Request clear labels at the serving table

Once the rice is in, it needs about 20 minutes, so we start it at the right moment for your event. If timings shift, we adapt.

Add canapé tapas with the drinks or table tapas as a starter while the paella cooks.

  • Cooked live in giant pans at your event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
  • Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
  • Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
