Live tapas catering in Freshwater

About our tapas catering in Freshwater

For standing receptions, canapés work best; table tapas suit seated meals. Lots of events do both. We’re frequently asked to cater table tapas as a starter and drinks reception canapés, serving croquetas, gambas al ajillo and Serrano ham.

Tapas make a party in Freshwater easy and sociable. We cook every pan in full view of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Paella compared with other options

A sandwich buffet is easy but forgettable. Tapas feel like a treat. Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so your choice of paellas affects the total. We’ll suggest options to suit your budget.

What you get with us

  • Paella cooked from scratch on site
  • Sangria, plus bar staff for your own drinks
  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them
  • Events in Freshwater and across the Isle of Wight

What happens on the day

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. Evening receptions in Freshwater stay light until about 8:55pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, so canapés can go round outdoors on a summer evening.

  1. Send us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. You get a selection and a price.
  3. We set up and finish the hot dishes.
  4. Canapés go round or tapas go to the tables.
  5. We clear our equipment afterwards.

Catering for every guest

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Ask guests about diets and allergies
  • Separate seafood dishes from the rest
  • Allow more variety if tapas are the whole meal
  • Include staff for canapés

Canapés circulate with drinks as guests arrive.

Spanish desserts to finish.

What tapas catering costs

We will give you a clear, itemised quote. What affects it most:

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, bread and salads, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • The courses you’d like

Freshwater: venues and local tips

Freshwater is about 5 miles south of Lymington, in the Isle of Wight. Tell us where your event in Freshwater will be, and we will plan access and set-up. We cater in 125 places across the Isle of Wight, from the larger towns to small villages. You can also see our page for Southampton, about 17 miles away.

After a ceremony at a church such as All Saints' Church, canapé tapas with the drinks keep guests happy during photos. Nearby historic houses include Mottistone Manor (4.6 miles south-east). Where a historic venue does not allow live cooking, canapé tapas may still be possible; ask the venue. The coast is within about a mile, so garlic prawns are popular.

Questions from Freshwater

Can you cook near the sea around Freshwater?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

Can you cater a reception after a service at All Saints' Church?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Live cooking usually happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

How do you work out quantities?

Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a little extra built in. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

Do you provide serving staff?

Staff make canapés work, which we can supply.

Where do you cater?

London and South East England: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Do you do desserts?

We do. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana.

Are there vegetarian tapas?

Many tapas are naturally vegetarian, such as tortilla, bravas and padrón peppers. We label each dish.

Do you cook tapas on site?

Hot tapas are finished on site so they’re served at their best.

Should I cook it myself?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

You can hire equipment and do it yourself, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.
