About paella catering in E1

Watching it cook is part of the experience. Guests gather round as the sofrito sizzles and the saffron colours the rice, and the smell does the rest. Typical bookings include leaving dos and retirements and christenings and family gatherings, serving mixed paella, vegan paella and seafood paella.

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so we time everything to your schedule.

  1. Get in touch with the basics: when, where and how many.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. Closer to the day, we confirm timings and the cooking spot.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

About the dishes

Paella Valenciana

Valencians take their paella seriously. The classic version is chicken, green beans and butter beans with saffron, and it’s a crowd-pleaser.

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is normally served with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

Should I cook it myself?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Planning the cooking area

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so we need a suitable spot. These are the things we check:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

Paella compared with other options

Plated meals need a kitchen and a bigger team. Live paella needs only a level, ventilated spot and permission to cook, and gives guests something to watch.

Questions to ask before booking

  • Staff numbers and hours
  • If the price includes VAT
  • The deadline for final numbers
  • Space, access and power needs
