About our paella catering in Whitechapel

One cooking area feeds a lot of people, very little goes to waste, and the food is served hot. That is why it works for so many events. We cook seafood paella, black rice and paella Valenciana, and typical bookings are for big birthdays and garden parties and summer barbecues.

In a London neighbourhood like Whitechapel, the cooking spot is typically a back garden, a courtyard or a venue’s terrace. Parking and loading are the main things to plan, so let us know about parking permits or a driveway. We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests, with each paella cooked in its own pan.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, depending on:

  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Guest numbers
  • Whether you need crockery

Compared with a plated meal, live paella is frequently good value, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. We’ll send you a quote.

What to tell us

You do not need everything decided to ask for a quote, but these help:

  • The venue or postcode
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • Your date and when you want to eat

To get a price, fill in our quote form. Give us the details of your event, and we’ll suggest paellas and extras to suit.

For event organisers in Whitechapel

If you are organising for someone else, whether you’re a planner, an office manager or an event organiser, we will work directly with you and the venue. It saves passing messages back and forth.

For repeat events, such as annual staff parties or seasonal fairs, let us know your dates early, so we can plan ahead.

Dishes our guests love

Seafood paella

Seafood paella starts with a good fish and shellfish stock. Shellfish goes in towards the end so it stays tender.

Vegetable and vegan paella

The vegetable pan is a dish in its own right: peppers, artichokes and beans with saffron, cooked in its own pan.

Before the day, we will agree where we cook. It needs to meet a few simple requirements:

  • A safe distance from anything that could catch
  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans

As a London location, Whitechapel is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

Whitechapel questions

What about parking in Whitechapel?

London parking needs planning: let us know about permits or off-street space. We will plan unloading around it.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Mary Matfelon?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Which paellas do you recommend?

That depends on who’s coming. Chicken and mixed paellas tend to go first, alongside seafood and vegetable or vegan pans.

Can you do sangria?

Sangria can be added, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Yes, it is the classic pairing. Tapas first, paella to follow.

How far ahead should we book?

The sooner the better. Popular dates book up first, so get in touch early.

Can the paella be cooked in a hall?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Do you do vegan paella?

Yes, and meat eaters frequently go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

Why choose paella catering in Whitechapel?

It needs no kitchen, so it’s at home in gardens, fields and marquees where plated meals are hard.

We are booked for all kinds of occasions in Whitechapel and nearby. Popular bookings include:

  • Wedding breakfasts and evening food
  • Retirement celebrations
  • Office lunches and staff parties
  • Milestone birthday parties

Nearby historic houses include Mansion House (0.9 miles west) and Dr Johnson's House (1.7 miles west). Historic venues often limit cooking, so ask early if you are booking one.

Choosing a paella caterer

Dietary needs and planning tips

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Ensure each pan is labelled
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet

The rice takes about 20 minutes once it goes in, so we time it carefully. If plans change, tell us and we will adjust.

We can add sangria and bar staff for your own drinks.

The process

The cooking is part of the entertainment. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook. In Whitechapel, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. Guests are served from the pan, and our area is cleared afterwards.

Preparing for the day

  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Have a level space ready for the pans
