About paella catering in N1
You can keep it simple or build a full menu: just paella, or paella with tapas, desserts and drinks. We’ll recommend what fits your event. We are frequently asked to cater garden get-togethers and milestone birthday parties, with vegetable paella, chicken and chorizo paella and seafood paella.
Serving is fast: the paella goes straight from the pan to the plate, so even a long queue moves. When service is finished, we pack down.
- It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
- You get a suggested menu and an itemised quote.
- On the day we arrive in good time, set up and start the stock.
- The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
- We serve from the pan, then clear our cooking area away.
Prices in N1
The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

What’s near Hoxton
We cook for events around Bishopsgate Institute Special Collections and Archives, Shoreditch Park and Stag's Head pub. Nearby too are Shoreditch Park Primary School (less than half a mile north), Hackney University Technical College (under half a mile south-east), Islington Green School (0.6 miles west) and Church of St Anne with St Columba (under half a mile east). There is a railway station in Hoxton itself: Hoxton station. A little further out are Montfichet's Tower (1.6 miles south-west) and Hackney Walk (1.7 miles north-east). For a walk before or after the party, there’s St. James's Park Lake and Barnsbury Wood.
- Other local spots include Metropolitan Borough of Islington (0.9 miles north-west)
Catering events across N1
N1 covers everything from St Pancras, Shoreditch and Hoxton to 0 small villages and hamlets, and live paella works in all of them. In towns, plan parking and access; in villages, tell us about lanes and ground.
Hoxton: For guests coming by train, Hoxton has its own station, Hoxton station. Nearby historic houses include Mansion House (1.4 miles south) and Dr Johnson's House (1.6 miles south-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. Planning an evening event in Hoxton? Sunset is around 8:50pm in late May, 9:20pm at midsummer and 7:05pm in late September; after dark, the cooking and serving areas need good lighting.
Dietary needs and planning tips
Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:
- Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
- Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet
- Confirm allergies by email
- Count adults and children separately
After service, we pack down our cooking area.
Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago.
Working with your venue
For larger events, we plan the number of pans and serving points around your timings, so guests are fed quickly. Let us know how long the food break is.
If you are booking for a business, tell us how you’d like to handle the booking and payment, and we’ll talk you through the process. We are happy to liaise with facilities on access and timings.
The menu, dish by dish
Paella Valenciana
The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, not seafood. It’s a favourite with guests who don’t eat fish.
Seafood paella
Prawns, mussels and squid in a rich fish stock, finished with lemon wedges. It’s the pan people photograph.
Paella compared with other options
If you want something different from the usual buffet or roast, live paella adds colour, smell and theatre to your event in N1.
What your quote should include
- Exactly what’s included in the price
- When final numbers are due
- Plates, cutlery and napkins, or disposables
- Any travel, parking or access charges
DIY paella versus live catering
For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.
You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.
N1: your questions answered
Is paella enough as a main?
It is a full meal on its own. Tapas and desserts can be added if you like.
Can you cater for children?
Yes. A simple chicken paella is typically popular with children. Tell us how many are coming.
What about pudding?
Yes. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana, or you can serve your own cake.
When do you arrive?
We get there in good time to set up. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.
How many paellas should we have?
Two or three covers most guests. Tell us about your guests’ diets and we’ll suggest the mix.
How much paella per person?
We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Accurate numbers help.
Which areas do you serve?
London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.
