Paella catering for Hoxton events

Paella catering for your event in Hoxton

Almost any venue with a level, ventilated spot will do: a garden, marquee, barn, courtyard or field. Whether it is christenings and family gatherings and community events and fairs, we can cook black rice, seafood paella and chicken and chorizo paella for your guests.

Around Hoxton, most London events we’re asked about are in gardens, courtyards and hired venues. The thing to plan is parking and unloading, so let us know about parking permits or a driveway. We bring everything we need to cook, and pack down our cooking area when service is finished.

How the day works

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. In Hoxton, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. First, you send us your date, venue, numbers and diets.
  2. We put together a menu and a clear quote.
  3. On the day, we set up the burners and pans and get the stock going.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

Before we arrive

  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable
  • Plan cover in case of rain
  • Give us a contact for the day

A closer look at the menu

Vegetable and vegan paella

Seasonal vegetables on a rich sofrito base make a proper main dish. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, not seafood. It’s often the most popular pan at an event.

Working with your venue

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: cooking areas, access times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we’ll follow them.

Planning an event for a club, school or charity in Hoxton? Live paella feeds a crowd quickly and suits most diets. Tell us about the event and we will suggest a menu.

Prices and what affects them

We will give you a clear, itemised quote. The main things that affect it are:

  • The length of service
  • How many guests are eating
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • How many courses

Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so your choice of paellas affects the total. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • The venue or postcode
  • A picture of the cooking space, if it’s a garden or field
  • The date and time of the event
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: venue, timings, courses and extras. To send your details, send us your details through our quote form.

Planning for every diet

Good planning keeps every guest safe and happy. Here’s how:

  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down

You shouldn’t have to worry about the food on the day. We arrive in good time, set up, cook and serve, and stay in touch with your venue about timings.

Tapas or canapés make a good start as the rice cooks.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. Common mistakes are mismatched pans and burners, overfilling and stirring. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

Nearby historic houses include Mansion House (1.4 miles south) and Dr Johnson's House (1.6 miles south-west). If your event is at a historic house or estate, check its rules on caterers and cooking early. For a christening or wedding at a church such as Church of St Anne with St Columba, a paella lunch or reception nearby is an easy way to feed everyone.

This part of Greater London takes in N1, N1P and EC1V, so your event can be anywhere in it. That could mean an event in a garden on City Road, Noel Road and East Road or the roads around them. Common questions in Hoxton

Is parking a problem for events in Hoxton?

It can be, so tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway. We’ll plan unloading around it.

What’s the nearest station to Hoxton for guests?

Hoxton has its own station: Hoxton station.

How much paella per person?

Quantities depend on numbers, timing and courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

What equipment do you bring?

All cooking kit comes with us. Tell us what the venue provides, such as tables or crockery.

How much does paella catering cost in Hoxton?

We quote for each event, based on what you actually want. Give us your date, numbers and menu ideas and we’ll reply with a price.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

Yes, on request. Proper crockery or quality disposables are available.

Can we choose the seafood?

We will talk through seafood options when we plan your menu.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

A gluten-free pan is no problem. Tell us about any coeliac guests when you book so we take the right care.

Is live paella right for your event?

A plated meal needs a kitchen, more staff and typically costs more per head. Live paella needs a level, ventilated spot and the venue’s permission to cook, and it’s entertaining too. The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, along with staff, extras and travel. Every event gets its own quote.

Why Hoxton hosts choose us

  • We cover Hoxton and the whole of Greater London
  • Real theatre, not just catering
  • Fast service from the pan
  • Add tapas, canapés and Spanish desserts

See Our prices page Or The cost guide.

Before you choose a spot

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so we need a suitable spot. Here’s what we look for:

  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site
  • Level ground for the pans and burners

As a London location, Hoxton is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: let us know about permits, bays or off-street parking.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think.
