Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it is in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Who books paella catering in The Village?

People book live paella because it’s food and entertainment at once. The pans become a focal point, and the food is hot and generous.

Big or small, live paella works well. Common bookings include:

  • Weddings, from canapés to evening food
  • Birthday celebrations
  • Staff parties and work lunches
  • Engagement and anniversary parties

Thinking of a picnic-style party in Windsor Great Park? Public parks usually need permission from the council or landowner for cooking, so check first.

Questions to ask before you book

  • Whether VAT is included
  • The deadline for final numbers
  • Who provides the crockery
  • Travel and parking costs

Our caterer checklist

Diets, allergies and planning

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because every paella has its own pan. A few tips:

  • Tell us about coeliac guests specifically
  • Put allergy details in writing
  • Ask for labels on each pan
  • Mention any other courses or food

Once the rice is in, it needs about 20 minutes, so we time it carefully. If plans change, tell us and we’ll adjust.

Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana finish the meal, or serve your own cake.

For planners, venues and organisers

Venues often have their own rules about outside caterers: where cooking is allowed, access times and the paperwork they need. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

Events in public spaces, like parks, normally need permission. We’ll provide any information the landowner or council asks for.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, based on a few main things:

  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Whether you need crockery
  • How long we’re needed on site

There’s no one-size-fits-all price for live paella. A simple paella lunch costs less than a wedding with canapés, three paellas and waiting staff. We itemise everything in your quote.

Details that help

When you contact us, it helps to tell us:

  • Expected numbers
  • The date and time of the event
  • A picture of the space, if you can
  • Anything your venue supplies

Send us the date, your venue or SL4 postcode and guest numbers, plus any dietary needs, and we’ll reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, send us your details through our quote form.

How it works

We take care of the food from set-up to service, so you’re free to enjoy your event. If you’ve chosen tapas or canapés, they go out first as the rice is cooking. Around midsummer it stays light in The Village until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening service is normally in daylight. For winter events, when it is dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Before we arrive

  • Tell us when you want to eat
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely

The menu, dish by dish

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a paella that stands on its own. For vegans, the stock is plant-based.

Paella Valenciana

The original paella from Valencia is a countryside dish of chicken and vegetables, not seafood. It is a favourite with guests who do not eat fish.

  • Cooked live in giant pans at your event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
  • Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
  • Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
