About our wedding paella catering in Hackney Marshes

Saffron and garlic in the air gets guests excited about the meal long before it is served. Whether it is weddings with a Spanish theme and weddings with lots of dietary needs, we can cook evening paella, canapé tapas and a paella wedding breakfast.

Couples in Hackney Marshes frequently marry locally and hold the reception at a venue or garden nearby. Live paella works well at both, as long as there is a ventilated spot to cook. Plan parking and loading early. We cook every pan in full view of your guests, so it arrives hot and becomes part of the event.

Space, weather and the venue

Every venue is different, so we will ask about yours before we confirm. In general, we need:

  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • A separate open-sided gazebo if the meal is in a marquee

As a London location, Hackney Marshes is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we’ll tell you honestly before booking.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

Common questions in Hackney Marshes

Could we have live paella in Leyton Jubilee Park?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, normally the council. Check with them, and we’ll provide our paperwork.

Which station should guests use for Hackney Marshes?

The closest is Lea Bridge station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

We can, if you tell us in advance. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Can you feed our photographer and band?

Yes. Add your suppliers to the final numbers and we will plan for them.

When should we book?

The sooner the better. Peak dates go quickly, so it pays to ask early.

Can you cater for children?

Of course. Children often love a simple chicken paella. Tell us how many are coming.

Can you cook indoors?

Generally we cook outdoors or under a ventilated cover, because we use gas burners. Some venues have suitable spaces; we will check with you and the venue.

How much paella per person?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Let us know about any other food. Our guide to portions explains more.

How to compare caterers

What happens on the day

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. We need a level, ventilated spot, and we agree where that is before the day. For a summer wedding in Hackney Marshes, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, which means evening paella is normally served in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. Share your date, venue, numbers and plans for the day.
  2. Together we plan each course and confirm the price.
  3. We agree timings with you and your venue, including speeches and photos.
  4. On the day, we set up, cook in front of your guests and serve each course.
  5. We clear our cooking area, and staff stay as agreed.

Getting ready for the day

  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Tell us when you want to eat

Planning help

Planners, venues and businesses

Venues frequently have their own rules about outside caterers: cooking areas, access times and documents. Tell us what your venue needs and we’ll work to it.

Throwing a party at home? Send us a picture of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Is live paella right for your wedding?

Live paella is less formal than a plated meal, but with canapés, table tapas and good crockery, it still feels special. The cost per head normally falls as numbers rise, because the cooking set-up is similar for different sizes of event. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

Why book with us

  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • Food that becomes part of the entertainment
  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them

What wedding paella catering costs

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • Timings and hours
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood

Live paella pricing depends on the event. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.

Details that help

You don’t need everything decided to ask for a quote, but it helps to know:

  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The courses you’d like

Send us the date, your venue or E5 postcode and guest numbers, plus any dietary needs, and you’ll get a menu idea and a price. To get started, fill in our quote form.
