Dietary needs and planning tips

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Give us separate day and evening numbers
  • Ask about diets and allergies with your RSVPs
  • Let us know about meals for your band or photographer
  • Check the venue’s rules for outside caterers

Evening guests can be served from fresh pans later on, generally timed after the first dance.

Canapés during the photos keep hunger at bay.

Is live paella right for your wedding?

A buffet can leave food sitting out. Paella is served hot from the pan when guests are ready. Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.

Why us?

  • Hot food served quickly from the pan
  • Every diet catered for, pan by pan
  • Everything cooked fresh at your event
  • No hidden extras in your quote

Step by step

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. For a summer wedding in City of Westminster, the sun sets at about 9:20pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, which means evening paella is usually served in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.

  1. First, we check your date.
  2. You pick the courses and dishes.
  3. We confirm the plan with your coordinator.
  4. Guests watch the paella cook during the reception.
  5. We serve and clear our cooking area.

Planning help

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. Ask us for a quote and compare.

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it’s harder than it looks. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Questions from City of Westminster

What’s the nearest station to City of Westminster for guests?

Bond Street station, in City of Westminster itself.

We’re having a ceremony at St Mark's: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking generally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Is it really cooked live?

It is. We bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook on the day, serving it hot from the pan.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three covers most guests. We’ll recommend a mix based on diets.

Do you cater for young children?

Yes, children are easy to cater for. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we’ll plan for them.

Do you cover City of Westminster?

We do. City of Westminster is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

What about supplier meals?

Yes, include them in your numbers. Tell us when they’ll eat.

What happens if it rains?

We need a covered spot, like a gazebo or open-sided marquee. We’ll agree a wet-weather plan with you.

What wedding paella catering costs

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Parking and unloading
  • Whether you need crockery
  • Guest numbers

Live paella pricing depends on the event. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. We itemise everything in your quote.

Getting an accurate quote

To speed things up, tell us:

  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • What the venue already provides
  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • A picture of where we’d cook

Most quotes start with a few simple details: date, location, guest numbers and diets. To send them, send us your details through our quote form.

Before you choose a spot

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We look for:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls

City of Westminster is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: tell us about parking bays, permits or a driveway.

If you are unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think.
