The menu, dish by dish

Chicken & chorizo paella

A smoky favourite with children and adults, ideal for guests who skip seafood.

Churros

Churros are a treat for all ages.

Should I cook it myself?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there’s shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and do not stir once the rice goes in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Hackney Marshes: your questions answered

What’s the nearest station to Hackney Marshes for guests?

The closest is Lea Bridge station, roughly 0.7 miles away.

Can you cater a reception after a service at The Risen Christ and All Souls?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking usually happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

Can you cook indoors?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, because we use gas burners. Some venues have suitable spaces; we’ll check with you and the venue.

Can you cook in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We’ll make a plan B with you.

When do you arrive?

We get there in good time to set up. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.

Can you do sangria?

Sangria, yes. We can also supply bar staff for your own drinks.

Will the neighbours notice?

There’s a cooking smell, but much less smoke than a barbecue. A friendly note to the neighbours helps.

How many different paellas?

Most events have two or three: meat or mixed, seafood, and vegetable or vegan. We’ll help you decide the split.

The process

Here’s how the day normally runs: we arrive, set up and start cooking, your guests watch the rice cook, and it is served hot from the pan when you’re ready to eat. At midsummer, it’s light in Hackney Marshes until about 9:20pm, so a garden party can run well into the evening. In late September it is dark by about 7:05pm; add lights for the evening.

  1. We check your date and the space.
  2. You choose your paellas and any extras.
  3. The burners go on and the sofrito starts.
  4. In goes the rice, and guests gather.
  5. We serve hot and tidy our area afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Tell us where to park and unload
  • Let us know the timings for the day
