Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Catering for every guest

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because every paella has its own pan. A few tips:

  • Ask for labels on each dish
  • Decide whether tapas are a starter, canapés or the whole meal
  • Check diets in advance
  • Keep seafood and meat dishes clearly separate

Hot tapas are finished on site and served right away.

Bar staff and sangria.

Questions from High Cogges

Do you come out to small places like High Cogges?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Let us know about access and parking.

Is High Cogges close to London?

Roughly 61 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

Are there vegetarian tapas?

Lots. Tortilla, patatas bravas, padrón peppers and Manchego are vegetarian classics.

How many different paellas?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We’ll suggest a split based on your guests.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Even if it’s short notice, it’s worth asking.

How much paella per person?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Tell us what else is being served. Our guide to portions explains more.

Can you do sangria?

Sangria, yes. We can also supply bar staff for your own drinks.

Can you cater for children?

Children are welcome. Let us know numbers and ages, and we’ll plan for them.

What happens on the day

The paella is cooked in huge, shallow pans over gas burners. It needs a level spot with some shelter and good ventilation, which we agree with you beforehand. Evening receptions in High Cogges stay light until about 9:00pm in late May and 9:30pm in late June, so canapés can go round outdoors on a summer evening.

  1. First, we check availability.
  2. You pick the style.
  3. We set up on arrival.
  4. We serve the spread.
  5. We clear away at the end.

Getting ready for the day

Is live paella right for your event?

Nibbles fill a gap. Tapas make a proper course. Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so your choice of paellas affects the total. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.
