Witney questions

What’s the nearest station to Witney for guests?

The closest is Finstock station, roughly 4.6 miles away.

We’re having a ceremony at Witney Congregational Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is typically elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

How long do you need on site?

We arrive well before serving to set up and start the stock. The rice itself takes about 20 minutes, timed around your event.

Can you provide dessert?

We do. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana.

Where do you cater?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight, including Witney.

How do you work out quantities?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Tell us what else is being served. Our guide to portions explains more.

Do you have vegetarian tapas?

Plenty are vegetarian, such as tortilla, bravas and padrón peppers. Each dish is labelled.

Can you bring crockery?

Yes, if you need them. Let us know what you have, and we’ll quote for the rest.

How our tapas catering works in Witney

Tapas are made for sharing and talking over. We serve them in two ways: canapés carried round while guests mingle, or table tapas set down to share. We are frequently asked to cater evening sharing boards and work receptions, serving Manchego with membrillo, croquetas and gambas al ajillo.

In a town like Witney, tapas suit garden parties, hall parties and receptions. We need a small area to finish hot tapas. We serve straight from the pan, so it’s hot and generous, and a queue moves quickly.

Why live cooking beats a buffet

If you want food that encourages guests to mingle, tapas work brilliantly. Seafood and premium ingredients cost more than chicken or vegetable paellas, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we’ll suggest a menu.

  • Tapas, canapés and desserts if you want them
  • Crockery and waiting staff if you need them

Organising for someone else?

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we will talk you through the process. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

Diets, allergies and planning

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because every paella has its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Widen the selection for a tapas-only menu
  • Tell us what role tapas play
  • Check diets in advance
  • Label seafood clearly

We clear our equipment when service ends.

Waiting staff for canapés.

Should I cook it myself?

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

How it works

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. Evening receptions in Witney stay light until about 9:00pm in late May and 9:30pm in late June, so canapés can go round outdoors on a summer evening.

  1. You tell us the date, venue, numbers and how you’d like the tapas served.
  2. We suggest a selection and confirm a quote.
  3. We arrive, set up and finish hot dishes on site.
  4. We serve canapés with drinks or set table tapas down to share.
  5. We pack down when service ends.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ensure we can park close by to unload
  • Have a level space ready for the pans
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable
