Halland questions

Is Halland close to London?

About 41 miles from central London, and well within our area.

We are having a ceremony at Halland Mission Hall: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is usually elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Do you provide drinks?

Yes, sangria. For other drinks, we can provide bar staff to serve what you buy.

Do you offer halal options?

Yes, on request. Let us know your halal numbers, and it is cooked separately.

Can we add tapas or canapés?

Of course. Canapé tapas with the drinks, or table tapas to share, served while the paella cooks.

Can we have tapas without paella?

Of course. Tapas can be booked without paella.

Can you do sangria?

We can add sangria and bar staff.

Do you cook inside?

Mostly outside or under an open cover, since the burners are gas. Some venues have suitable spaces; we will check with you and the venue.

Planning for every diet

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because every paella has its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Canapés need staff to serve
  • Collect dietary needs
  • Plan more dishes if tapas are the meal
  • Label seafood clearly

Staff carry canapés round and keep boards topped up.

Sangria and bar staff.

How it works

We cook over gas burners in wide, shallow pans. We need a level, ventilated spot, and we agree where that is before the day. A summer drinks reception in Halland has daylight until about 9:15pm at midsummer, ideal for tapas in the garden. In late September, sunset is about 7:05pm; winter receptions, dark by 3:55pm, are better indoors.

  1. We check your date.
  2. You choose canapés, table tapas or both.
  3. We set up on arrival.
  4. We serve the spread.
  5. Afterwards, we clear up.

Getting ready for the day

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we will do the cooking.

Paella compared with other options

Standard canapés can feel samey. Spanish tapas bring colour and flavour. The price depends on your guest numbers, the menu and how many courses you choose, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.
