Why choose live paella in Blackgang?

A sandwich buffet is easy but forgettable. Tapas feel like a treat. Live paella frequently compares well with a sit-down meal, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. Booking us means you get the show without the stress.

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.

Dietary needs and planning tips

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Allow more variety if tapas are the whole meal
  • Ensure dishes are labelled
  • Include staff for canapés
  • Label seafood clearly

Afterwards, we clear away.

  1. First, we check availability.
  2. You pick the style.
  3. We arrive and set up our station.
  4. Hot and cold tapas are served.
  5. We clear away at the end.

Planning help

Blackgang: venues and local tips

Blackgang is about 6 miles south-west of Shanklin, in the Isle of Wight. Tell us where your event in Blackgang will be, and we will plan the journey and set-up. Blackgang is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight where we cook. Our nearest city page is Southampton, about 23 miles away.

If you are looking at a historic venue around Blackgang, check its catering rules early, as many limit cooking. Canapé tapas suit the drinks after a ceremony at a church like St Andrew's Church. With the sea within about 5 miles, seafood tapas such as gambas al ajillo are a natural choice.

Anywhere in PO38, we can cook for your guests. For events just outside Blackgang, we cover Chale (1 mile north-west), Niton (1 mile east), Puckaster (1 mile south-east), Pyle (1 mile north-west) and Bierley (1 mile north-east). We also cook in nearby towns such as Newport (8 miles north), Ryde (11 miles north-east), Cowes (12 miles north), Sandown (8 miles north-east), Shanklin (6 miles north-east) and Ventnor (4 miles east). Some remote venues need extra planning, so contact us in good time.

Working with your venue

If you’re organising for someone else, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we are happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It keeps things simple.

Throwing a party at home? Send a picture of the space and tell us about parking, and we’ll let you know if live paella is a good fit.

Questions from Blackgang

Can you cook near the sea around Blackgang?

Yes, as long as we can shelter from the wind. Sea breezes cool the pan, so a windbreak, building or gazebo helps.

We’re having a ceremony at St Andrew's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is typically elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

Can you provide dessert?

We can add a dessert. Let us know if you’d like one when you ask for a quote.

What space do you need to cook?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

How far ahead should we book?

As early as you can, especially for summer weekends. Ask about your date even if it’s soon.

Can you cook in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop us, as long as there is a ventilated cover. We will make a plan B with you.

Are there vegetarian tapas?

Many tapas are naturally vegetarian, like tortilla and padrón peppers. Each dish is labelled.

Is the paella gluten-free?

We can, if you tell us in advance. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Prices and what affects them

Here’s what makes the biggest difference to the price:

  • How many courses
  • Timings and hours
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Parking and unloading

Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so it helps to tell us about your venue. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Details that help

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Roughly how many adults and children

We need only a few details to quote: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. To send them, send us your details through our quote form.

  • Cooked live in giant pans at your event
  • Vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal options
  • Paella, tapas, canapés and desserts
  • Sangria, bar staff, crockery and waiting staff
