Paella catering in Westdean, made fresh on the day

A couple of different pans covers everyone: meat, seafood and vegetarian or vegan paellas. Every pan is cooked on its own. For milestone birthday parties and anniversaries and engagement parties, we will put together a menu of paella Valenciana, vegetable paella and mixed paella for your guests.

Somewhere as small as Westdean, a garden or field is frequently the venue. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we’ll plan for them, and a firm spot near where we park makes set-up easier. You’ll know exactly what’s included before booking: the menu, the staff and any extras.

DIY paella versus live catering

DIY catering keeps costs down, but the host spends the party cooking. With live paella catering, you get the theatre without the work.

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Catering for every guest

With a little notice, every diet is easy. Our advice:

  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Count adults and children separately
  • Request clear labels at the serving table
  • Pick a mix of paellas to cover every diet

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive in good time, set up, cook and serve, and stay in touch with your venue about timings.

Finish with churros, crema catalana or tarta de Santiago.

Why choose live paella in Westdean?

Food trucks and street-food vans serve one portion at a time. A big pan serves many guests fast, so everyone can eat at the same time. The cost per head typically falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we will quote.

Why Westdean hosts choose us

  • Everything cooked fresh at your event

Planning the cooking area

Safety and good cooking both depend on the spot we use. We look for:

  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • Agreement from the venue or landowner to cook on site

Not sure about your space? Send us a photo and we’ll tell you honestly.

Do you have a kids’ option?

Children are welcome. Tell us how many and roughly how old, and we’ll plan for them.

How do you work out quantities?

We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Give us accurate numbers for the best result.

Yes, and meat eaters often go back for seconds. Each is cooked separately, with its own stock and utensils.

Do you do desserts?

We do. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana.

Can you supply plates?

Yes, on request. Proper crockery or quality disposables are available.

The process

On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so we time everything to your schedule. Evenings in Westdean stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:05pm; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. We agree timings, access and the cooking spot.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Getting ready for the day

  • Check the venue allows live cooking
  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Have a level space ready for the pans

What’s in the pans

Vegetable and vegan paella

A slow sofrito, seasonal vegetables and a good vegetable stock make a paella that stands on its own. Vegan versions use plant-based stock.

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.
