Paella catering for The Pound events

How our paella catering works in The Pound

A single cooking set-up can feed a crowd, very little goes to waste, and the food arrives hot. It’s why live paella suits so many kinds of event. Whether it’s festivals, fairs and school events and big birthdays, we can cook vegetable paella, vegan paella and seafood paella and more.

In a small place like The Pound, events are generally in a garden, a field or a nearby hall. Tell us about narrow lanes or long drives and we will plan for them, and cooking close to where we can park helps. We serve straight from the pan, so every plate is hot, and service is quick once it’s ready.

What’s the nearest station to The Pound for guests?

Battle station, about 4.5 miles east of the centre.

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather be with your guests, we’ll do the cooking.

Planning live paella in The Pound

The Pound is about 5 miles north-west of Bexhill-on-Sea, in East Sussex. Whether your event is in the middle of The Pound or on the outskirts, we offer the same service: live cooking, separate pans for every diet and a clear price. We cater in all 289 towns and villages across East Sussex. Our events stretch from The Pound to Brighton (about 23 miles away).

Parks such as Ashburnham Park normally need the owner’s permission for cooking, so ask before you plan a party there. For guests coming by train, Battle station is about 4.5 miles away. The Pound is within about 7 miles of the High Weald National Landscape, and country venues and gardens there suit live paella perfectly. Check your venue’s rules on vehicles and cooking.

Mixed paella

Paella mixta combines meat and seafood in one pan, and it’s frequently the first pan to empty.

What affects the price in The Pound

These are the factors that matter most:

  • Parking and unloading
  • Whether you need crockery
  • How long we are needed on site
  • Waiting and bar staff

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.

What we need to know

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what’s useful:

  • A photo of the cooking space, if it’s a garden or field
  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • Whether you want canapés, tapas or desserts
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children

Every event is quoted individually, so you only pay for what you need. For a quote, use our quote form.

What we need at the venue

The right spot keeps things safe and helps the paella cook evenly. We look for:

  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Somewhere close to park and unload
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

Our caterer checklist

Step by step

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. Evenings in The Pound stay light until about 9:15pm in June, but by late September sunset is around 7:00pm; once it is dark, we need light to cook and serve by.

  1. It starts with your date, venue, numbers and any dietary needs.
  2. We suggest a menu and confirm a quote, including what’s included.
  3. We arrive early, set up the cooking area and start the stock.
  4. The rice cooks in full view, while tapas or canapés go round.
  5. It’s served straight from the pan, and we pack down afterwards.

Getting ready for the day

  • Ensure we can park close by to unload
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches
  • Name one person we can ask on the day

Planning help

Is live paella right for your event?

Next to a hog roast or barbecue, paella makes vegetarian, vegan and halal guests easier to cater for, because each paella has its own pan. Service from the pan keeps queues moving. Premium seafood costs more than chicken or vegetables, so the menu you choose affects the price. Tell us your budget and we will suggest a menu.

Why us?

  • No hidden extras in your quote
  • Every diet catered for, pan by pan
  • Live cooking, not reheated food
  • Drinks service on request
