Cook it yourself or book a caterer?
A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.
You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.
The process
On the day, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. For a summer wedding in The Pound, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so an evening paella for evening guests is usually served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:55pm.
- Send us your wedding date, venue and numbers.
- Together we plan each course.
- We agree timings with you and your venue.
- We cook live on the day and serve each course.
- We pack down, and staff stay as agreed.

Questions from The Pound
Do you come out to small places like The Pound?
Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.
We’re having a ceremony at Parish Church of St Peter: can you cater afterwards?
Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Send us the reception address.
Do you work with our venue?
Yes. We’ll speak to your venue about access and timings.
How much is live paella catering?
The price depends on numbers, menu, courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we will send a quote.
What if our speeches run late?
We adapt. We keep in touch with your venue on the day and time the rice so it’s served at its best.
Do you do canapés and evening food too?
We can cater as much or as little of the day as you like, from the drinks reception to the evening.
Can you cook in the rain?
Rain doesn’t stop us, as long as there’s a ventilated cover. We’ll talk it through before the day.
Can you do sangria?
We can make sangria, and we can staff a bar with your drinks.
