DIY paella versus live catering

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. Ask us for a quote and compare.

For planners, venues and organisers

Hosting a party at home? Send us a photo of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

Planners and coordinators can contact us directly, and we’ll keep you updated on timings and set-up.

Questions from Langley Heath

Which station should guests use for Langley Heath?

Hollingbourne station, about 2.5 miles north-east of the centre.

Can you cook at venues in the Kent Downs National Landscape?

Yes, though some venues in protected landscapes have extra rules; ask your venue. We’ll work to whatever the site needs.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Courtyards, doorways and terraces often work.

Do you clear up afterwards?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.

How many different paellas?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We will help you decide the split.

Do you work with our venue?

Yes, and it saves you passing messages. Introduce us and we’ll sort the details.

Is paella smart enough for a wedding?

Served well, it feels generous and special: canapés, tapas, crockery and table service.

What about supplier meals?

Yes, include them in your numbers. Let us know when they need feeding.

Paella compared with other options

Food vans can create long queues. Paella is served quickly to many guests. The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Give us your numbers and we’ll quote.

How it works

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. For a summer wedding in Langley Heath, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, so an evening paella for evening guests is typically served in daylight in high summer. For autumn and winter weddings, when it’s dark by about 3:50pm in December, plan lighting for the cooking area.

  1. First, we check your date.
  2. You choose canapés, tapas, paellas and desserts.
  3. We confirm the plan with your coordinator.
  4. Guests watch the paella cook during the reception.
  5. We serve and clear our cooking area.

Planning help

How we price wedding paella catering

We’ll give you a clear, itemised quote. What affects it most:

  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Guest numbers
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff

Compared with a plated meal, live paella is frequently good value, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. We’ll send you a quote.

Details that help

Good planning starts with a few facts. Try to include:

  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • The courses you’d like

To get a price, use our quote form. Give us the details of your wedding, and we will put together a menu and price.

Diets, allergies and planning

A little planning makes sure everyone can eat. Here’s how:

  • Book early for summer Saturdays
  • Count day and evening guests separately
  • Connect us with your coordinator
  • Decide whether guests queue at the pans or are served at the tables

If speeches or photos run over, tell us, and we will adapt the timing so the paella is served at its best.

Spanish desserts, or your own wedding cake, finish the meal.
