Weddings in Hoo: venues, ceremonies and travel

Hoo is about 5 miles south-west of Margate, in Kent. Weddings in Hoo are planned around your venue and timings: a clear quote, agreed timings and paella cooked live on the day. We cook in all 922 towns and villages in Kent. Our nearest city page is Canterbury, about 10 miles away.

Sandwich and Pegwell Bay nearby makes a lovely backdrop for photos, and the countryside around Hoo suits an outdoor reception. Couples marrying at local churches such as Church of Saint Mary the Virgin frequently hold the reception nearby: the paella can be cooking while you have photos taken, so the meal is ready when you arrive. The sea is within about 6 miles, perfect for a seafood paella wedding. We will plan shelter from sea breezes.

Wherever your wedding is in CT12, we can cook for your guests, from busy streets to quiet lanes. Local streets include Monkton Road, Hoo Farm Way and Sheriffs Court Lane; a wedding at home on any of them works well with live paella. We also cook at weddings in Monkton (1 mile west), St Nicholas at Wade (2 miles north-west), Westmarsh (2 miles south-west), East Stourmouth (2 miles south-west) and Sarre (2 miles west). Within a short drive, we also cover Canterbury (10 miles south-west), Margate (5 miles north-east), Dover (14 miles south), Ramsgate (5 miles east), Broadstairs (6 miles east) and Whitstable (11 miles west).

Hoo questions

Is Hoo close to London?

About 61 miles from central London, and we cover it as standard.

Is Hoo too small for live paella?

Not at all. We cater in villages and hamlets as well as towns. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, on request. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Do you provide plates and cutlery?

If you need them, yes. Proper crockery or quality disposables can be added to your booking.

Should we have more than one paella?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We will help you decide the split.

Can you feed our photographer and band?

Yes, include them in your numbers. Tell us when they’ll eat.

What space do you need to cook?

Level ground for the burners, pans and a table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

Is paella too casual for a wedding?

With the right presentation, it feels special: canapés, tapas, crockery and table service.

Prices and what affects them

Each event is quoted on its own, and the price depends on a few things:

  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • The paellas you choose
  • Timings and hours
  • Guest numbers

Live paella pricing depends on the event. A garden party lunch and a full wedding menu are very different jobs. Your quote spells it all out.

What we need to know

To speed things up, tell us:

  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • Roughly how many adults and children

Tell us your date, venue or postcode and roughly how many guests, plus any dietary needs, and we will reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. To get started, send us your details through our quote form.

Step by step

We take care of the food from set-up to service, so you can enjoy your wedding. Any tapas or canapés are served first while the paella cooks. For a summer wedding in Hoo, the sun sets at about 9:15pm in late June and about 7:00pm in late September, which means evening paella is usually served in daylight in June and July. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it is dark by about 3:50pm.

  1. You tell us your date, venue, guest numbers and how you picture the day.
  2. Together we plan each course and confirm the price.
  3. We fit our timings around your speeches, photos and venue.
  4. On the day, we set up, cook in front of your guests and serve each course.
  5. We clear our cooking area, and staff stay as agreed.

Getting ready for the day

  • Let us know the timings for the day
  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Keep the cooking spot clear of fences, hedges and branches

Still deciding on the menu? No problem: tell us about the occasion and the guests, and we will suggest a menu. To start, send us your details through our quote form.

Planning help

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Cooking paella for a crowd yourself is possible, but it is harder than it looks. A big pan needs a burner that heats it evenly, and getting the rice right at scale is tricky. Read how to cook paella for a crowd.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but you’ll still need to source ingredients, prep and cook for hours. A caterer handles all of that.

Space, weather and the venue

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so we need a suitable spot. These are the things we check:

  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • Access for unloading near the cooking spot

If you’re unsure, send a photo of the space and we will say what we think.

Popular choices

  • Evening paella
  • Canapé tapas
  • Paella wedding breakfast
  • Sangria & bar staff
  • Dessert
  • Table tapas

Catering for every guest

We take diets and allergies seriously. Here’s how you can help:

  • Connect us with your coordinator
  • Let us know about meals for your band or photographer
  • Tell us when speeches will be
  • Ask whether your venue allows outside caterers

Paella can be served at the pans or carried to the tables by staff, whichever suits your day.

Add sangria, or bar staff to serve your own drinks.
