Evening paella

Paella makes great evening food, especially after a few hours on the dance floor.

A tapas starter gets tables talking before the paella arrives.

Christmas Common questions

We’re having a ceremony at Church of the Nativity: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking usually happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

How far is Christmas Common from London?

Roughly 39 miles from the centre of London, and we cover it as standard.

What if our speeches run late?

It happens. We time the rice to the actual running order, so it is served at its best.

Is the paella cooked on site?

Yes. Every paella is cooked from scratch on site, where your guests can watch.

Do you clear up afterwards?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Table clearing is available with waiting staff.

Do you do desserts?

We do. Spanish desserts such as churros or crema catalana, or you can serve your own cake.

Do you cater for coeliacs?

Yes, on request. Rice is naturally gluten-free, but stock and some ingredients may not be, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Will there be enough food?

We plan quantities from your guest numbers, timings and other courses, with a sensible margin. Accurate numbers help.

Catering for every guest

Paella is one of the easiest dishes for mixed diets, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. A few tips:

  • Ask whether your venue allows outside caterers
  • Ask about diets and allergies with your RSVPs
  • Choose pan-side or table service
  • Book early for summer Saturdays

If things run late, and we will adjust the cooking so the paella is served at its best.

Table tapas make a sociable starter.

Cook it yourself or book a caterer?

Not sure whether to cook yourself or book a caterer? Think about numbers, diets and how much you want to enjoy the day. We are happy to give you a quote to compare.

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For big numbers or lots of diets, a caterer makes life easier, and handles separate pans for each diet.

Planning a paella wedding in Christmas Common

Christmas Common is about 8 miles south of Thame, in Oxfordshire. Whether your wedding is in the middle of Christmas Common or on the outskirts, we offer the same service: paella cooked live, every diet catered for and a clear quote. Nearby historic houses include Stonor Park (2.9 miles south-east) and Adwell House (4.2 miles north). The Chilterns National Landscape is within about a mile of Christmas Common, with plenty of rural wedding settings. Check vehicle access and cooking rules with the venue.

Planning the cooking area

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. Here’s what we look for:

  • Clearance from fences, hedges, branches and anything flammable
  • An open-sided catering gazebo next to the marquee
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover

If you are unsure, send a picture of the space and we’ll say what we think.

What we offer

  • Paella wedding breakfast
  • Table tapas
  • Dessert
  • Sangria & bar staff
  • Canapé tapas
  • Evening paella

Planners, venues and businesses

Many venues have rules for outside caterers: cooking areas, access times and documents. Send us your venue’s requirements and we will follow them.

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so everyone eats promptly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Step by step

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so we time everything to your schedule. At midsummer, sunset in Christmas Common is about 9:25pm, so we can time the evening paella around your photos. In late May, sunset is about 8:55pm, and in late September about 7:10pm.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and ideas.
  2. We plan a menu with you, course by course, and confirm a quote.
  3. Timings are agreed with you and the venue, around speeches and photos.
  4. On the day we set up, cook live and serve each course as planned.
  5. We pack down our cooking area, with staff staying as long as agreed.

Preparing for the day

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Arrange parking near the cooking spot
  • Give us a contact for the day
