About our wedding paella catering in Blackwater

Timing is everything with paella: once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, and it is best served right away. We plan it around your speeches and photos. For relaxed sharing-style wedding breakfasts and evening food for extra guests, we’ll put together a menu of Spanish desserts, evening paella and table tapas for your guests.

Rural weddings around Blackwater have a magic of their own, and paella cooking in the open air adds to it. Plan for access and a wet-weather cover. We bring everything we need to cook, and pack down our cooking area when service is finished.

Planning the cooking area

Most gardens and venues can host live paella, but a few things matter:

  • Level ground for the pans and burners
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking
  • Good ventilation: outdoors, or an open-sided cover

Blackwater is a more remote spot, so tell us early and we’ll plan the journey.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise before you book.

What we offer

  • Evening paella
  • Dessert
  • Canapé tapas
  • Paella wedding breakfast

Weddings in Blackwater: venues, ceremonies and travel

Blackwater is about 2 miles south of Newport, in the Isle of Wight. Tell us where your wedding in Blackwater will be, and we will plan access and set-up. Blackwater is one of 125 places in the Isle of Wight we cover. Our events stretch from Blackwater to Southampton (about 17 miles away).

Couples marrying at local churches such as St. Olave's Church often hold the reception nearby: the paella can be cooking while you have photos taken, so it’s ready as guests arrive. Nearby historic houses include Gatcombe House (1.2 miles south-west) and Sheat Manor (1.4 miles south-west). Historic houses and estates often have their own rules on caterers and cooking, so check early if that’s your venue. With the coast within about 6 miles, a seafood paella suits a seaside-style wedding. We’ll plan shelter from sea breezes.

Here we cover the PO30 postcode area, and we can cater your wedding anywhere in it. We can cater a wedding on streets such as Sandy Lane, Sandy Close and Blackwater Hollow or the roads around them. Other places close to Blackwater for wedding paella catering include Shide (1 mile north), Rookley (1 mile south), Merstone (2 miles south-east), Newport (2 miles north) and Rookley Green (2 miles south). Further out, we also cater in Ryde (6 miles north-east), Cowes (6 miles north), Sandown (6 miles east), Shanklin (6 miles south-east), Ventnor (6 miles south-east) and East Cowes (5 miles north). If your wedding is somewhere remote, let us know early and we will plan the trip.

Catering for every guest

Few dishes handle mixed diets as well as paella, because each paella is cooked in its own pan. Here are a few tips for planning:

  • Collect dietary needs on the RSVP
  • Check the venue’s rules for outside caterers
  • Share your running order, including speeches
  • Decide whether guests queue at the pans or are served at the tables

We keep in touch with your venue coordinator or toastmaster on the day, so you don’t have to.

Table tapas make a sociable starter.

Organising for someone else?

Throwing a party at home? Send us a picture of the garden and tell us about access, and we’ll tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

For big numbers, we plan pans and serving points to keep queues short, so guests are fed quickly. Tell us how long you have for food.

Canapé tapas fill the gap before the meal.

Paella wedding breakfast

The main event: paellas for every diet, served hot and generous.

How it works

Here’s how the day usually runs: we set up the pans and start the sofrito, your guests watch the rice cook, and we serve straight from the pan at the agreed time. In Blackwater, midsummer sunset is about 9:20pm, and by late September it is nearer 7:10pm, so an evening paella for evening guests is usually served in daylight in high summer. Later in the year, plan lighting: in December it’s dark by about 4:00pm.

  1. We start with your date, venue, numbers and ideas.
  2. Together we plan each course and confirm the price.
  3. We agree timings with you and your venue, including speeches and photos.
  4. On the day, we set up, cook in front of your guests and serve each course.
  5. Afterwards we clear our area; any staff you’ve booked stay as planned.

How to prepare

  • Get the venue’s permission for cooking
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day
  • Leave space around the cooking area

Why choose live paella in Blackwater?

Food vans can create long queues. Paella pans serve many guests quickly. Compared with a plated meal, live paella is often good value, as there is no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

Your questions about wedding paella catering in Blackwater

Is Blackwater too small for live paella?

No, we cook in small places too. Tell us about lanes, gates and parking.

We’re having a ceremony at St. Olave's Church: can you cater afterwards?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking normally happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

Do you cater for suppliers?

Yes, include them in your numbers. Let us know when they need feeding.

What if photos overrun?

We adapt. We keep in touch with your venue on the day and time the rice so it is served at its best.

How much paella per person?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Let us know about any other food. Our guide to portions explains more.

Do you provide drinks?

Sangria can be added, and provide bar staff to serve drinks you supply.

How much does wedding paella catering cost in Blackwater?

The price depends on numbers, menu, courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we’ll send a quote.

Do you cook inside?

Only in a suitable, well-ventilated area with the venue’s permission. Most events have us cooking outside or in a doorway or courtyard.

Prices and what affects them

Your quote will be clear and itemised. What affects it most:

  • How many staff you need
  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Guest numbers
  • Timings and hours

When you compare quotes, check what each one includes: staff, crockery, sides, travel and VAT. We itemise ours.

Getting an accurate quote

A few details help us give you an accurate quote. Here’s what to include:

  • The courses you’d like
  • Your date and when you want to eat
  • A picture of where we’d cook
  • Expected numbers

Send us the date, your venue or PO30 postcode and guest numbers, along with any dietary needs, and you’ll get a menu idea and a price. To get started, send us your details through our quote form.

Should I cook it myself?

For a small group, cooking yourself can work well. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and handles separate pans for each diet.

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.
