Choosing a paella caterer

Tapas catering in Wye, cooked live

For standing receptions, canapés work best; for seated meals, table tapas. Many events have both. On the menu are patatas bravas, Serrano ham and croquetas, and we are regularly asked to cater sharing boards for evening guests and tapas with a paella main course.

In a rural spot like Wye, tapas can be served in a garden, barn or marquee. All the cooking equipment comes with us, and we clear our cooking area away afterwards.

DIY paella versus live catering

A DIY paella party works for small groups. For larger numbers, mixed diets or a wedding, a caterer takes the pressure off, and keeps vegetarian and allergy-safe pans separate.

Weighing up DIY against a caterer? Consider your numbers, your guests’ diets and your own time. We’re happy to give you a quote to compare.

The process

We take care of the food from set-up to service, so you can enjoy your event. Any tapas or canapés are served first as the rice is cooking. A summer drinks reception in Wye has daylight until about 9:15pm at midsummer, perfect for canapés outdoors. By late September it’s dark around 7:00pm, and in December by about 3:50pm.

  1. Tell us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. We suggest a selection and a quote.
  3. We set up and finish hot tapas on site.
  4. We serve canapés or table tapas.
  5. We pack down when service ends.

Before you choose a spot

We cook in large pans over gas burners, so the cooking area needs a little planning. These are the things we check:

  • Table space for sharing dishes at seated meals
  • The venue’s agreement to outside caterers
  • Space to finish hot dishes

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we will advise.

  • Gambas al ajillo
  • Albóndigas
  • Serrano ham
  • Chorizo in red wine
  • Croquetas
  • Olives & bread
  • Padrón peppers
  • Patatas bravas

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, because of:

  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Chicken, vegetable or premium seafood
  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • Timings and hours

Cost depends on guest numbers, the menu and the courses, plus any staff, crockery and travel. We quote for each event individually.

Details that help

Here’s what makes a quick, accurate quote possible:

  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • The address or venue name
  • The date and rough timings
  • A picture of where we’d cook

It’s easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We’ll send a clear, itemised quote.

  • Decide whether tapas are a starter, canapés or the whole meal
  • Make sure dishes are labelled

Table tapas are set down to share.

Spanish desserts to finish.
