Tapas catering in Russell Hill, cooked live

Tapas and paella go hand in hand, as a starter while the rice cooks, but they’re great on their own. We are often asked to cater engagement parties and canapés with welcome drinks, serving albóndigas, Serrano ham and patatas bravas.

For a London drinks party in Russell Hill, canapé tapas are easy to serve in a small space. We bring everything we need to cook, and pack down our cooking area when service is finished.

Planners, venues and businesses

Hosting a party at home? Send us a picture of the garden and tell us about access, and we will tell you honestly whether live paella will work.

If you are planning an event on someone’s behalf, such as a wedding planner, an office manager or a festival organiser, we’re happy to deal with you and the venue directly. It saves passing messages back and forth.

Planning the cooking area

Every venue is different, so we will ask about yours when you get in touch. In general, we need:

  • Room for a tapas table
  • An area to prepare hot tapas
  • Space on each table

As a London location, Russell Hill is inside the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking takes planning: let us know about permits, bays or off-street parking.

If in doubt, send us a picture of the spot and we’ll advise.

Popular choices

Planning for every diet

With a little notice, every diet is easy. We suggest:

  • Separate seafood dishes from the rest
  • Book staff to carry canapés round
  • Plan more dishes if tapas are the meal
  • Ask for labels on each dish

Dishes are labelled for diets and allergens.

Prices and what affects them

Every event is priced individually, based on a few main things:

  • Timings and hours
  • Waiting and bar staff
  • Plates, cutlery and glassware
  • Starters, canapés and desserts

Compared with a plated meal, live paella is often good value, as there’s no kitchen to hire and fewer staff to pay. Ask us for a quote.

Getting an accurate quote

Good planning starts with a few facts. Please include:

  • Diets and allergies you know about
  • A photo of the cooking space, if it is a garden or field
  • The venue or postcode
  • Approximate guest numbers, including children

Send us the date, your venue or SM6 postcode and guest numbers, plus any dietary needs, and we will reply with a menu suggestion and a quote. Just fill in our quote form.

What’s in the pans

Tortilla española

A thick potato and egg omelette served in wedges or squares.

Patatas bravas

A tapas classic.

How the day works

The cooking is part of the entertainment. We start with the sofrito, add the stock and saffron, then spread the rice across the pan and leave it alone to cook while your guests chat. Evening receptions in Russell Hill stay light until about 8:50pm in late May and 9:20pm in late June, so canapés can go round outdoors on a summer evening.

  1. Tell us the date, venue and numbers.
  2. You get a selection and a price.
  3. We set up and finish the hot dishes.
  4. We serve canapés or table tapas.
  5. We pack down when service ends.

How to prepare

  • Make sure we can park close by to unload
  • Choose a level spot for the cooking area
  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time

We need only a few details to quote: the date, where the event is, how many guests and any dietary needs. To send them, fill in our quote form.

FAQs for Russell Hill

Which station should guests use for Russell Hill?

The closest is Waddon station, roughly 1 mile away.

Could we have live paella in Duppas Hill?

Only with permission from the park’s owner, usually the council. Check with them, and we’ll provide our paperwork.

Is halal food available?

Yes, we do. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in its own pan.

Do you serve drinks with tapas?

Yes. Sangria can be added, and bar staff if you are providing the drinks.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

Yes, on request. The rice is gluten-free, but stocks and chorizo can contain gluten, so we cook a gluten-free paella separately.

Do you do tapas on their own?

Absolutely.

What about pudding?

Yes, Spanish desserts can be added. Let us know if you’d like one when you ask for a quote.

Can you serve tapas as well?

Yes, and it is a popular combination. Tapas go out first, then the paella.
