Common questions in Covent Garden

Is parking a problem for events in Covent Garden?

London parking needs planning: let us know about permits or off-street space. We’ll work around it.

Which station should guests use for Covent Garden?

Covent Garden has its own station: London Charing Cross station.

Do you cater for vegetarian guests?

Yes, and meat eaters often go back for seconds. They have their own pans, stock and spoons.

Can you cook in the rain?

We cook under cover, such as a gazebo, marquee or open-sided barn with good ventilation. We plan for rain with you in advance.

Will there be enough food?

We size the pans for your numbers and the rest of the menu. Let us know about any other food. See how much paella per person.

Do you cater for children?

Paella is popular with children, especially a mild chicken one. Let us know numbers and ages.

What areas do you cover?

London and the South East: Kent, Surrey, East and West Sussex, Hampshire, Berkshire, Bucks, Oxfordshire and the Isle of Wight.

Can you cook halal paella?

Yes, we do. Halal paella is cooked with halal chicken and no pork or alcohol, in its own pan.

About our paella party catering in Covent Garden

Paella is made for relaxed parties: served from the pan, shared and enjoyed, so nobody needs a formal seating plan. Whether it’s wakes and memorial gatherings and street parties and neighbourhood get-togethers, we can cook tapas, churros and chicken and chorizo paella for your guests.

In Covent Garden, a back-garden party is the usual choice, even if the garden is small. We need a level spot clear of fences and trees, and somewhere to park and unload. Send a picture of the garden. The paella is served straight from the pan, so every plate is hot, and a queue moves quickly.

Before you choose a spot

No two venues are the same, so we will ask about yours when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • Space well away from trees, fences and gazebo walls
  • A level, firm spot for the burners and pans
  • The venue’s permission for live cooking

Covent Garden is in London, within the Ultra Low Emission Zone, and parking can be tight: let us know about permits, bays or off-street parking.

If you’re unsure, send a picture of the space and we will say what we think.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

If you do cook yourself, test the pan and burner together beforehand, have hot stock ready, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

You can cook paella for a crowd yourself, but it takes practice. Large pans need the right burners, and getting the rice right for dozens of people takes experience. Our guide to cooking paella for a crowd explains how.

Dishes our guests love

Vegetable paella

Vegetarians get a real main course, and meat eaters often try it too.

Churros

All ages love churros.

Paella compared with other options

Home-made buffets take ages and sit out for hours. Paella is cooked fresh and served hot. Compared with a plated meal, live paella is often good value, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. We’ll send you a quote.

Why book with us

  • Separate pans for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests
  • Paella cooked from scratch on site
  • No hidden extras in your quote
  • Plates, cutlery and waiting staff available

How the day works

When we arrive, we set up the burners and pans and start cooking the sofrito and stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, so the timing is planned around your event. For a late-May party in Covent Garden, sunset is around 8:50pm; at midsummer it is about 9:20pm. If the party runs past dark, we’ll need light where we cook and serve.

  1. It starts with your date, address, numbers and any diets.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a quote.
  3. We arrive, set up in your garden or venue and start the sofrito.
  4. The paella cooks while your guests chat, with any tapas served first.
  5. We serve it hot from the pan, then pack down.

Preparing for the day

  • Share the running order, including any speeches
  • Ensure the spot is clear of anything flammable
  • Let us know who to talk to on the day

  • Travel, parking and access
  • The number of people

The cost per head usually falls as numbers rise, since the set-up is much the same either way. Tell us your numbers for an accurate price.
