Paella has always been food for a crowd: cooked in the open in a big, shallow pan and shared straight from it. That’s what we bring to events in Wooden Hill. We are often asked to cater engagement and anniversary parties and christenings and family gatherings, serving chicken and chorizo paella, vegetable paella and mixed paella.

Somewhere like Wooden Hill, a field or garden is often the perfect setting. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. Tapas, canapés, desserts, sangria and staff can all be added, so one booking can cover the whole menu.

What affects the price in Wooden Hill

There are no hidden charges: the quote reflects:

  • Extra courses such as canapés, tapas and dessert
  • How many staff you need
  • Whether you need crockery
  • Distance and access to the venue

Got a budget? Let us know, and we’ll suggest a menu to match. A simple menu can still feel generous.

Getting an accurate quote

You do not need every detail fixed to get a quote, but it helps to know:

  • The date and rough timings
  • A photo of the space, if you can
  • Roughly how many adults and children
  • The address or venue name

The more you tell us, the more accurate the quote: venue, timings, courses and extras. When you are ready, fill in our quote form.

Live paella or other catering?

Cold buffets are easy but forgettable, and food can sit out for a while. Paella is cooked live and served hot. Compared with a plated meal, live paella is frequently good value, because it needs no kitchen and fewer staff. Ask us for a quote.

The process

Serving is fast: we serve straight from the pan, so large groups are fed quickly. Afterwards we clear our cooking area away. Around midsummer it stays light in Wooden Hill until about 9:25pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it’s dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. Start with the date, the place and the numbers.
  2. We come back with paellas to suit your guests, plus any extras.
  3. A week or so before, we confirm the plan.
  4. We set up, cook from scratch and keep an eye on your timings.
  5. We serve, then leave our area tidy.

Before we arrive

  • Have a gazebo or cover ready if rain is likely
  • Leave space around the cooking area
  • Tell us when you want to eat

FAQs for Wooden Hill

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church?

Yes, at a nearby garden, marquee or hall where we can cook. Churches rarely have space for live cooking, so the meal is generally elsewhere. Tell us where the reception will be.

How far is Wooden Hill from London?

Roughly 30 miles from the centre of London, and well within our area.

How do you work out quantities?

Pans are sized to your numbers and other courses. Let us know about any other food. Our guide to portions explains more.

Is the paella cooked on site?

It is. We bring the pans, burners and fresh ingredients and cook it there and then, serving it hot from the pan.

Do you offer halal options?

We can. Tell us how many guests need halal food, and we’ll cook a separate pan.

Do you cover Wooden Hill?

Yes, we do. Wooden Hill is one of the places we cover. Send us your date to check availability.

Can you cook in the rain?

A covered, ventilated spot keeps us cooking in the rain. We will make a plan B with you.

Do you take everything away?

We take our equipment and leave the cooking area tidy. Ask us about table clearing if you need it.

Should I cook it myself?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Plenty of people try cooking paella for their own party. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.
