Planning an event in Birch Hill?

Diets, allergies and planning

We cater for vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free and halal guests. To get it right:

  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Add a dietary question to your invitations
  • Plan seating for most guests: paella is easiest eaten sitting down
  • Let us know if anyone has coeliac disease

The rice takes about 20 minutes once it goes in, so we start it at the right moment for your event. If timings shift, we adapt.

Bread, salad and lemon wedges make the meal go further and suit guests who aren’t big rice eaters.

Paella catering in Birch Hill, cooked live

Paella was made for feeding a crowd: cooked outdoors in a wide, shallow pan and shared. That is exactly what we bring to your event in Birch Hill. Popular choices include vegan paella, seafood paella and mixed paella, and we’re regularly asked to cater engagement and anniversary parties and garden parties and summer barbecues.

There may be a hall or club near Birch Hill if your garden is small; live paella can work at any of them, given permission and outdoor space. Your quote spells out exactly what’s included: the menu, the staff and any extras.

A closer look at the menu

Black rice

Black rice gets its colour from squid ink, and is usually served with alioli. It’s a striking addition to a seafood menu.

Mixed paella

Chicken and seafood together.

The process

On the day, we set up our cooking area, light the burners and start the sofrito. The rice goes in about 20 minutes before serving, so the timing is planned around your event. In Birch Hill, the sun sets at about 9:25pm in late June and about 7:05pm in late September, so summer evening events are usually served in daylight. In December it is dark by about 3:55pm, so winter events need lighting where we cook.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. We suggest paellas and extras and send a clear quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. We serve from the pan, then pack down.

Getting ready for the day

Planning help

For event organisers in Birch Hill

Booking for a company? Tell us what your finance team needs, and we will explain how it works. We can work with your facilities team on access and timings.

If your event is in a public space, such as a park, check what permission you need first. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

Can I cook paella for a crowd myself?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and leave the rice alone once it’s in. And keep children and pets well away from the burner.

Some hosts like to cook themselves. The usual problems are a pan too big for the burner, too much rice and stirring once the rice is in. If you’d rather enjoy the party, let us cook.

Prices and what affects them

Two events with the same number of guests can cost different amounts, because of:

  • Your choice of paellas
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Starters, canapés and desserts
  • The length of service

Travel, parking and access can affect the price, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Getting an accurate quote

For a quote, it helps to have:

  • Anything your venue supplies
  • Any dietary needs and allergies
  • The courses you’d like
  • The date and time of the event

It’s easy to get a price: share your date, venue, numbers and diets. We’ll come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.

Questions from Birch Hill

Which station should guests use for Birch Hill?

The closest is Bracknell station, roughly 1.6 miles away.

Can you cater a reception after a service at St Michael and St Mary Magdalene's Church?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Tell us where the reception will be.

How much space do you need?

A level space for the pans, burners and a serving table, in the open air or a ventilated covered area, and the venue’s permission for live cooking.

When do you arrive?

We arrive well before serving to set up and start the stock. Once the rice goes in, it takes about 20 minutes, and we time it to your schedule.

Can you provide dessert?

We can add a dessert. Tell us what you have in mind in your enquiry.

Do we need to provide equipment?

We bring all the cooking equipment. Tell us what the venue provides, such as tables or crockery.

Who clears up?

Our cooking area is packed away and left clean. Table clearing is available with waiting staff.

Can you do gluten-free paella?

A gluten-free pan is no problem. Let us know about coeliac guests in advance so we take the right care.
