Live paella catering in Wickstreet

About our paella catering in Wickstreet

Two or three pans side by side cover every guest: meat, seafood and vegetarian or vegan paellas. Each is cooked separately. Popular choices include vegetable paella, paella Valenciana and mixed paella, and we’re regularly asked to cater office lunches and staff parties and engagement and anniversary parties.

In a hamlet or village like Wickstreet, your own garden or a neighbour’s field can make a wonderful venue. Gates, verges and soft ground are worth mentioning when you enquire. We serve straight from the pan, so it is hot and generous, and a queue moves quickly.

Organising for someone else?

If you run the same event each year, tell us your dates early, so we can hold the date.

Events in public spaces, like parks, typically need permission. We can send whatever the landowner or council needs from us.

Planning the cooking area

Every venue is different, so we ask about the space when you contact us. Generally, we look for:

  • Confirmation that open cooking is allowed
  • Outdoor space or a ventilated gazebo
  • A safe distance from anything that could catch

Not sure about your space? Send us a picture and we will tell you honestly.

What we offer

  • Mixed paella
  • Paella Valenciana
  • Vegetable paella
  • Black rice (arroz negro)
  • Chicken & chorizo paella
  • Vegan paella
  • Seafood paella

Should I cook it myself?

Cooking it yourself? Test your pan and burner first, keep the stock hot, and do not stir once the rice goes in. Keep a clear zone around the burner.

Hiring a pan and burner is one option, but there is shopping, prep and hours of cooking. We take care of all of it.

What paella catering costs

There are no hidden charges: the quote reflects:

  • Crockery and cutlery, or disposables
  • Guest numbers
  • Staff: cooks, waiting staff and bar staff
  • Starters, canapés and desserts

Access and travel can make a difference to the cost, so tell us about the venue when you ask for a quote. Everything is confirmed in writing.

Details that help

We can quote more accurately with a few details. Here’s what’s useful:

  • Approximate guest numbers, including children
  • The date and rough timings
  • Whether the venue has crockery or staff
  • A photo of the space, if you can

It is easy to get a price: tell us the date, place, numbers and any dietary needs. We will come back with a clear quote and a suggested menu.

What happens on the day

From set-up to serving, we look after the food, so you are free to enjoy your event. Any tapas or canapés are served first while the paella cooks. Around midsummer it stays light in Wickstreet until about 9:15pm; by late September sunset is nearer 7:05pm, so summer evening events are normally served in daylight. For winter events, when it’s dark by about 3:55pm, we need lighting at the cooking spot.

  1. We start with a few details about your event.
  2. You get a menu and an itemised quote.
  3. Timings, access and the cooking area are agreed in advance.
  4. On the day, we set up and cook in front of your guests.
  5. It is served straight from the pan, and we clear our area afterwards.

How to prepare

  • Arrange a covered spot for wet weather
  • Send us final numbers and dietary needs in good time
  • Leave space around the cooking area

A closer look at the menu

Black rice

Arroz negro is coloured and flavoured with squid ink, traditionally with alioli. It makes a dramatic second seafood pan.

Mixed paella

A mix of chicken and seafood, for guests who want a bit of everything.

Perfect for your event in Wickstreet

Paella is one of the few dishes that handles mixed diets easily, because each version is cooked in its own pan. Everyone gets the same kind of meal.

If you’re planning any of these, we can help:

  • Fairs, fêtes and festivals
  • Family celebrations and christenings
  • Big birthdays
  • Summer garden parties

School fairs and fundraisers, for a school such as Bede's Prep School, can book us as a food stall.

What your quote should include

  • Space, access and power needs
  • The wet-weather plan
  • Who provides the crockery
  • How dietary needs and allergies are handled

How to compare caterers

Wickstreet questions

Can you cater a reception after a service at The Parish Church of St Pancras?

Yes, at a garden, marquee or venue nearby with a suitable spot to cook. Live cooking typically happens at the reception venue, not the church. Send us the reception address.

Which station should guests use for Wickstreet?

Berwick (Sussex) station, about 1.5 miles south-west of the centre.

Do we need to provide equipment?

All cooking kit comes with us. Tell us what the venue provides, such as tables or crockery.

Can you cook in the rain?

Rain doesn’t stop us, as long as there’s a ventilated cover. We will talk it through before the day.

How many paellas should we have?

Two or three is usual: a meat or mixed paella, a seafood paella and a vegetable or vegan one. We’ll suggest a split based on your guests.

Can you bring crockery?

Yes, on request. Proper crockery or quality disposables are available.

Can you cook halal paella?

Yes. We use halal chicken and leave out pork and alcohol, in a separate pan.

How much is live paella catering?

The price depends on numbers, menu, courses, staff and travel. Tell us about your event and we will send a quote.

Diets, allergies and planning

Dietary needs are easy to plan for with a little notice. We suggest:

  • Tell us what else is being served
  • Ask about diets and allergies on your invitation or RSVP
  • Plan a meat, a seafood and a vegetable or vegan pan
  • Count adults and children separately

On the day, you shouldn’t have to think about the food. We arrive in good time, set up, cook and serve, and keep in touch with you or your venue about timings.

Need plates or staff? We can provide them.
